Mabel Elizabeth Mitchell was born on January 25, 1919 to the late Lillian A. Holmes and Courtney Emerson in Calvert County, Maryland. Elizabeth peacefully departed this life on Friday, November 20, 2009, at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Lizzy, as she was affectionately called, was employed by the Calvert County School Board, and also worked as a seamstress in Annapolis, MD. She was united in matrimony to the late Nelson C. Mitchell on December 24, 1942.
Lizzy accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She served under the oversight of the late Pastor Wood, as a missionary in 1955. After six years she was the founder and became the Pastor of Mount Zion Apostolic Church. She was always under the Apostolic Faith and served in the "Army of the Lord" for over 65 years. Her love for the Lord and the Word of God was evident in every aspect of her life. She was a sweet powerful woman of God. She shared her love for the Lord and His Word with everyone she encountered. You could always find her reading her Bible or praying.
Lizzy was preceded in death by her husband Nelson, daughter Barbara and Sister Lucy. She leaves to cherish her memories: 1 brother Willie Simms, 1 sister Helen Simms, 2 sons Joseph Mitchell and Witfield Banks, 1 daughter Marguerite Powell, 2 sons-in-law Frankie Powell and Alfred Parker, 1 daughter-in-law Wanda Mitchell, 7 grandchildren, 13 great-children, 2 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
