Obituary for Leon Herbert Rice

Early in the morning hour on November 15, 2007, Leon Herbert Rice heard the voice of Jesus say, come unto me and rest. Leon Herbert Rice was born on November 9, 1944 to the late Herbert Rice and Juanita Booze. Leon received his education in the public school system in Anne Arundel County. Leon was a very dedicated and hard working man.  Leon worked at AJ Ellis in College Park, MD from 1969-1973.  Leon started his own Landscaping Business in 1973 that he loved until his death.  Leon also contracted with Morgan E. Russell, Excavating, F & M builders, Ken Miller of Tide Water Homes and Luckett Construction.  Leon was also the groundkeeper of the Old Colony Cove Farm in Rose Haven, MD. Leon enjoyed watching and attending tractor pulls, car shows and watching his Washington Redskins, but what Leon treasured most was cooking for his family and friends, and spending time with his granddaughters. On December 27, 1969, Leon was united in holy matrimony to Zelma D. Jones and from this union there was three children: Pedro, Tyneeka and Oreaco. 
Leon joined St. Edmonds United Methodist Church in 2005, where he attended as much as he could. Leon leaves to cherish his wonderful memories, his devoted wife, Zelma D. Rice.  His children, Pedro, Tyneeka and Oreaco. Step-mother, Shirley Mom Brown Rice.  Granddaughters, Leeann, Denise and Zsanee.  Brothers, Calvin Rice, Matthew, Morgan and Milton Jones.  Sisters, Essie and Evelyn.  Sister-in-laws, Joann, MaryJane, Grace, Connie and Dorothy.  Brother-in-laws, James, Oscar II, Benson, Samson and Jeffrey, Sr.  Mother-in-law, Lucy and Father-in-law, Oscar I.  Special nephews that he loved as sons, Lorenzo Renny, Sherwood Berwood and Jamar Marty.  Extended grandchildren, Myles, Viana, Damon, Davonne and Nigeria.  Special close longtime friends, Eugene Step, Daniel, John Slow Walker and Paul Cocchiaro.  And a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues and many, many, many, many, many friends.
