Obituary for LORETTA E. SMITH
Loretta Elizabeth (Pinkney) Smith, 71, was born on April 30, 1950, to Alice E. Pinkney and the late Henry Pinkney. She was one of eight siblings, including a twin sister. Although born in Baltimore, she was raised in Brandywine, Maryland. She attended Frederick Douglas High School and continued her education at the College of Southern Maryland. As a long-time member of the Carroll Western United Method Church, Loretta enjoyed going to Sunday service.
While raising her four children, Loretta was employed at the Arc of Southern Maryland and later the Calvert County Board of Education as a teacher assistant. She retired from the school system when her health started to decline but not from work. It was after her retirement that she became a home health care worker.
The family was essential to Loretta, and she often participated in family events such as tea parties, Easter egg hunts, holiday gatherings, and other family-related events. Her generosity was evident when she donated and handed out school supplies to the family. She enjoyed watching the Price is Right, the Soaps, and her favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. She loved going to yard sales with her mother and siblings. You may even have found her at a local tractor pull or rodeo. One of Loretta's precious moments was when she was with her grandkids.
In addition to her father, Loretta was preceded in death by her grandchild, Mariah Hamilton, and nieces, Victoria Estep and LaShawn Willis.
To cherish her memory are four children, Evelyn Pinkney, Robert (Lee) King (Kimberly), Levon Smith (Rokita), and Kecia Harris (Rayfield); her mother, Alice Pinkney; her siblings, Henrietta Wright (Robert), Delores Estep, Barbara King, Joseph Pinkney, Eleanora Neale, Jimmy Pinkney (Kimberly), and Rickey Pinkney; 12 grandchildren, Damon, Monika, Shantel, Ashlyn, Kaylee, Willie, La'Erica, Delonta, Lorenzo, Dominique, Treyvon, and Javon; 1 7 great-grandchildren, Ari, Steven, Dylen, Dakari, Chase, Delonta Jr, Isabella, Mireya, Messiah, Roshone, Braelynn, Amila, Antwone, Na'Zarria, Dominic, Fallon, and Nova; one godchild, Jay Neale; devoted" friends, Shirley Hawkins, Lisa Heights, Diana Sewell, Carolyn Blake, Eleanor Hicks, Janice Johnson, Mary Russell, Inez Hawkins, and Ruth Hawkins, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Sadly, Loretta's life journey ended on October 16, 2021, but the beauty of who she was remains in the hearts of many.
