Obituary for LOIS VIRGINIA JAY
Lois Virginia Jay, 90 of Atlantic City, New Jersey was born on September 11, 1931 in Calvert County Md. to the late George and Annie Rice. Lois passed away on December 31, 2021 at her niece’s home in St. Leonard, Md. Lois attended the Island Creek Elementary Pink School in Island Creek Md. At the age of 16 she moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey. She was a 1952 graduate of the Bordentown Manual Training School in Bordentown, New Jersey. On September 15, 1956 she married the love of her life the late Winfield A. Jay Sr. and from this union was one son Winfield A. Jay Jr. Lois worked at the Chalfont Hadden Hall Hotel for many years as a coat checker and Bell Captain and continued to work when it was changed to Resorts Casino-Hotel until she retired in 1999. Lois was a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness. Lois enjoyed crocheting, coloring, bingo and cooking especially for her Maryland family when they visited her. Her love for her family was genuine, especially all of her nieces and nephews. In August of 2021 Lois moved back to Maryland and was cared for by her family. Her main caregivers were Spencer Height and Sarita Harris with the help of her other nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Winfield A. Jay Sr.; parents George and Annie Rice; sisters, Ruth Height, Dorothy Simms, Margaret Rice and Jacqueline Page; one brother, Winslow Mason. She leaves to cherish her memories: son, Winfield A. Jay Jr. (Kimberly); three stepdaughters, Dana Jackson, Rhonda Rogers and Michele Blackman; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law; one sister-in law and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
