Obituary for LEON DOUGLAS WILLETT, SR.

Leon Douglas Willett Sr. was called home in the early morning of August 4, 2020. He was the eleventh of thirteen children born to the late Herbert Gerome and Mabel Pauline Willett on April 27, 1965 in Prince Frederick, Maryland. Leon, known by many as “Doug”, was a hard-working brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and an exceptional friend to many.

Leon graduated from Calvert Senior High School in 1984. He played football, basketball, and baseball in school; he was quite the athlete. Leon was a die-hard Washington Redskins fan and you wouldn't want to trash talk them in his presence. In his younger years, he played on several softball teams including the Adelina Foxes.

Leon was a "master" on the grill; he knew how to blacken the food which, earned him the nickname of "Cajun". He enjoyed making his special mustard sauce, you could count on it being on everything on the grill. Leon loved hanging out with his family and friends under the "tree" at home. Some of his pass times included playing cards, cornhole, horseshoes, and fishing. This past Father's Day, he and the guys chartered a boat to enjoy some time out on the water.

Leon met Shedina Hodge in 1989 on a blind date which was the beginning of several years they would spend together. On February 6, 2004, he married Shedina and from this union, they had 3 children.

Leon began working at Safeway in Glen Burnie, MD as a meat cutter. He worked at Auto Service Centers such as Southern Tires, Bayside, Mr. Tire, Waldorf Tire, and McCarthy Tire Service. He also worked for Giant Food, Inc. as an overnight stocker. Leon owned his own company, LDW Tires & Auto Detailing, he provided services throughout Prince George's County and Southern Maryland. He worked for Calvert County Public Schools for the last thirteen years as a building service worker first at Barstow Elementary School and later transferring to Mutual Elementary School.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Mabel Willett; brothers: Archie and Calvin Willett; sisters: Ann Smith, Sheila Willett and Renae Willett-Towns; grandson: Landon Willett; nieces: Delma Douglas and Latosha Miller; great niece Asjouria Willett and mother-in-law Arlene Hodge.

Leon leaves to cherish his memories: his wife Shedina Willett; 1 son: Leon Willett Jr.; 3 daughters: Alona Holland, Jasmine (Terry Jr.) Harris and Kierra Willett; 2 grandsons: Jeremiah Weeks and Isaiah Harris; 7 siblings: Rose Willett, Herbert (Sharon) Willett, Austin Willett, Marcus (Wanda) Willett, Brenda Willett, Glenda Stepney and Zera Willett; 3 aunts: Estella, Loretta and Gertrude Willett; 3 godchildren: TaNeshia Briscoe, Malaya Janey and Linessa Brown; 10 nieces; 16 nephews; 19 great nieces; 21 great nephews; grandma: Madeline Chase; father-in-law: Clarence Hodge; a host of cousins, family, friends and special friends who were like family to him: Tony Taylor Sr., Spencer Height, Jay Chew, Marvin Hill Sr., Aaron Foote, Carlton Howard Jr. and Wilbur Hurley Jr.
