Obituary for LAURA ANN JOHNSON
Laura Ann Johnson, daughter of Rosa Mackall was born on March 28, 1943 at John's Hopkins Hospital of Baltimore County, Maryland. Rosa passed away during the birth of her only daughter.
Laura began her education in the Calvert County Public School System. She only completed the sixth grade at that time. However, Laura was so determined to get her high school diploma, that she went back to school and received her GED from Brooks High School in June 1974.
Laura was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Richard Sylvester Johnson (West) on August 3, 1969. To this reunion Sylvester and Laura raised four children. She served as a homemaker while raising her children. Later in life, she had many places of employment until she retired from the Calvert County Public School System (Sunderland Elementary School) on June 12, 2014.
Laura accepted Christ in her life at a young age and became a member of the Brooks United Methodist Church on March 7, 1971. She was baptized under the leadership of the late Reverend Joseph Collins. Laura has been an active faithful member for almost 50 years. She served as a member of the Chancellor and Sanctuary choir, performed with Mariam's Sister Dance Ministry, The Willing Workers, Senior Circle, and a member of the United Methodist Women's Organization.
Laura was well known in the community as "Grandma" and no one was a stranger to her. She was a people person and developed many close relationships with many friends close to her heart. Her closest friendship was with Regina and Peggy. There wasn't anything that Laura wouldn't do for the people she cared about.
She was a skilled seamstress, loved to shop, and spoil her grandchildren. She would share with you her interest in sports, she enjoyed bowling with the league, she loved to play and coach softball. She continued to play softball welling her senior years. She finally laid down the softball glove at the ripe age of 65. Laura also loved her Washington Redskins football team.
Laura departed this life to be with her Lord on February 28, 2018.
