Obituary for LARRY LORENZO CHEW
Larry Lorenzo Chew, 49, of Bronx, NY passed away on June 16, 2011 at his residence. He was born on August 16, 1961 to the late Alonzo Chew and the late Missionary Ella Beatrice Wallace in Prince Frederick, MD. Larry accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized in Jesus Name according to Acts 2:38 at the Greater Bible Way Church in 1972 under the leadership of the Late Bishop Henry Brown, Sr., and he continued under the leadership of the Late Apostle Joseph N. Brown. Larry loved ushering and singing in the choir. Larry was educated in the Calvert County Public School System and the later pursued higher education at the Anne Arundel Community College with a concentration in Musical Theatre, while living in Annapolis. Larry had a love for life and lived life to the fullest! As an adult Larry relocated to the state of New York. It was always his dream and aspiration to live the New York City Life, "They say the neon lights are bright, On Broadway". Larry possessed an intelligence that would surpass any scholar, and inspire anyone in the process of becoming. Larry had keen street smarts and he was bilingual. While in New York Larry learned many things which brought him into the company of many famous people. Larry was known in Brooklyn as "Chewy" the hair stylist. As the CEO of Chewels, Inc., he was a participant in the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund in which Larry worked backstage as a celebrity stylist. He was a stylist for Danny Glover, Tito Jackson and Sherri Shepherd to name a few. Larry had a love for classic movies such as, "Bell Book and Candle", "West Side Story", "It's a Wonderful Life", "Imitation of Life", and "Mommy Dearest". He love "Mommy Dearest" so much that at any given moment you can hear him yelling at the top of his lungs "No more wire hangers, EVER!!!" Larry loved his sisters and his brothers but was especially close to his eldest sister Sandra. Although Larry never had any natural children, he always declared emphatically that he raised his nieces and nephews as his own, along with his god-son Francis Taylor, Jr. He especially cared for his great nieces, Beautie and Gorjous. He cherished them as his own children. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Alonzo Chew and Missionary Ella B. Wallace. His eldest sister Diane Chew Hebb. Maternal grandparents, John H. Wallace, Sr.and Missionary Mary Beatrice Wallace. Paternal Grandparents, Louis Chew, Sr. and Ollie Chew. Larry leaves to cherish his memory: two brothers, Carl Lee Chew (Deborah), Deacon Marvin Chew (Jeanette); four sisters, Sandra, First Lady Jae Mackall (Pastor Mackall), Beverly Mitchell (Greg), Shepherd Mother Connie Stewart (David, Sr.).; eleven nephews Terrell, Jamar, Cherron, Dale, Frederick, Alonzo, Pastor Burton, Joshua, David, Jr., Michael (DJ), and Anthony; eight nieces Laveeta, Sherrita, Shuree, Damita, Janee, Shalanda, Tyrisha and Renee; six great-nephews, Anthony, Kyree, Da'Sean, Amaya, Jameel, Isaiah, Jonah, and Jordan; eight great-grand nieces, Beautie, Tasani, Gorjous, Tyrese, Trinity, Tamia, Damias and Alaijah; maternal Uncle and Aunts, Kevin Wallace, Ray Wallace and Jay Wallace, Evangelist Dottie Stewart (Stanley), Karen Wallace, Margaret Giles (Melvin, Sr.); paternal uncles and aunts, Frankie Chew, Estep Chew and Donald Chew, Mildred Harris (Billy), Mary Mackall, Ella Mae Johnson (Sonny) and Barbara Jean Gross (Robert); his very special god-parents, Clarence and Virginia Mackall and God children, Francis Taylor, Jr., La'Quawn Holland and Domonique Gray.
