Obituary for LANDOUS MARIE HERBERT
Landous Marie Herbert was the fifth child born to the late Lercy and Rebecca Booth on November 11, 1931, in Calvert County, Maryland. She received her heavenly wings on December 24, 2020, in North Bethesda, MD. Landous had five brothers and four sisters with whom she had a close bond and loved dearly.
She attended Calvert County public schools and graduated from Brooks High School in June 1949. Landous married Raymond Herbert and she was his devoted wife for 48 years until his passing in 2009. From this union, there were five children, Dexter, Deborah, Denise, Deana and Derrick. The five De's. She was a loving mother who would go the extra mile for her family. Affectionally known as “Mom Herbert” by many, Landous shared her love with all she came in contact with resulting in many surrogate children and sisters.
Landous worked for the International Union of Operating Engineers in Washington, DC for 24 years until she retired in June 1994.
Landous accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was a member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church. After relocating to Washington, DC, she joined Peace Baptist Church where she rededicated her life to Christ and was baptized. Her favorite scriptures were Psalm 23, Proverbs 3:5-6 and Psalm 92. She loved attending Sunday School Classes, Sunday Worship Services and the Noon Day Bible Study where she studied the Word of God and fellowshipped with others. She would take mints and peanut butter crackers with her to church on Sundays to share with those sitting in the pews near her. A quote from one of her friends shared: "Sister Herbert always has goodies."
She had a heart for helping others in need whether it was providing food, clothing or just offering a word of encouragement.
Landous enjoyed singing spirituals, reading and sharing daily devotional books, playing her piano and visiting with family and friends. She truly enjoyed family gatherings, especially reunions and birthday celebrations.
Everyone enjoyed seeing her smile, hearing her laughter and witnessing her smooth hand- dancing.
Landous had a sweet personality and beautiful smile. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. We will truly miss her!
Landous leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Deborah Banks, Denise Herbert and Deana Herbert; son, Derrick Herbert (Darlene); brother, Howard Booth (Theresa); granddaughters: DeVon Banks, Lashawn Mackall (Dexter); grandsons, Dexter V. Herbert, Jr. (Priscilla), Dale Banks, Jr. (Eleasah) and Dominique Herbert; eight great grandchildren, Deonte and Dillyn Banks, Diamond, Daiyanna, Damaris and Dana Herbert, Kiersten Burroughs, Iyanna and Dionna Mackall; sister-in-law, Katrina Howe; and daughter-in-love, Bertha Carroll Hicklin. A host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends will also miss her dearly.
Her husband, Raymond Herbert; son, Dexter V. Herbert, Sr.; four brothers, Louis, Lercy Jr., Ernest and Richard Booth; and four sisters, Lillian Taylor, Catherine Lindsey, Irene Booth and Ethel Duppins preceded her in death.
