Obituary for John Hillary Coates

John Coates of Lothian, MD died on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Annapolis, MD following a bout with pneumonia. He was born on August 2, 1939 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland to the late John Coates and the late Frances Blake.
John was known by many as "Johnny". He attended Anne Arundel County public schools. After working as an auto sales person for some time, he went to work for the Prince George's County Public School Systems as a janitor until a promotion to building supervisor. He continued in this position until his retirement from the Prince George's County School System in 2004.
His hobbies in his earlier years included playing music, outside maintenance work and gardening. John was an active member of Union United Methodist Church where he also served as the pianist.
He leaves to mourn Nancy Morsell Coates whom he married in 1957; five children, David (Vanessa) Coates of Alexandria, VA, Nathan Coates of Forestville, Mathew (LaNell) Coates of Gaithersburg, Jonathan (Niecy) Coates of Clinton and Gloria Jones of Huntingtown; four brothers, Charley (Vernica) Randall of Lothian, Eugene (Mary Francis) Wiseman of Annapolis, Willie (Dorothy) Wilson of Washington, DC, James Randall of Lothian; two aunts, Lucille Blake and Lucille Easton; fourteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family friends and loved ones.
