Obituary for James William Johnson

James  William Johnson,  88 of Capitol Heights, MD, died Sunday, January 6, 2008 at Laurel Regional Hospital.
He was born on October 25, 1919 in Washington, D.C. to the late Walter Harrison Johnson and the late Edna Emerson Johnson. He was the first of four children.  The family later relocated to Calvert County.  James attended school in both Washington, D.C. and Calvert County.
James also known as "JJ" by his many friends at Cherry Lane Nursing Center enjoyed cooking, helping people, eating ice cream and watching the New York Yankees.  He worked in many different fields during his lifetime, which included construction, food service and farming.  James attended Freedom Way Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sisters, Carrie Taylor and Elizabeth Hawkins; sister-in-law, Catherine Johnson; special niece, Ethelene Dorsey who cared for him for many, many years; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; all his special friends at Cherry Lane Nursing Center.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Walter Johnson.
Funeral services were held at St. Edmonds UM Church, Saturday, January 12, 2008 at 12:00p with Pastor Ronald Hawkins of Church of God, eulogist.
Interment was at Ernestine Jones Cemetery, Chesapeake Beach, MD.
Pallbearers were Gregory Booze, Corey Jones, Gregory Carter, James Hawkins, Stacy White, and Charles Gross.
