On Friday July 29, 2022 Joyce D. Robertson transitioned into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Joyce was born on July 11, 1945 to the late Wilford and Rosie Ward.
She was the second oldest child born to Wilford and Rosie Ward in Washington DC. She attended the Prince Georges County Public School System. Joyce graduated from Fairmont Heights High School June1963 in Fairmont Heights, MD.
Joyce excelled in her academics and particularly enjoyed dance and drama classes. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Growing up she attended Westphalia United Methodist Church. She enjoyed going to church and hearing the word, singing and praising God with friends and family.
In 1965, she married her High School sweetheart Earl M. Robertson, and from this marriage they had two sons, Andre and Kevin. She was a very protective and loving mother and raised them to be very respectful and loving young men. She was a very loving and caring person who always showed a lot of love for others less fortunate than herself. Joyce was a passionate gardener, loved beautiful flowers and plants. She loved birds and butterflies and especially hummingbirds. She waited for them to come to the feeder on her patio. She loved visiting the local farmer’s markets and buying fresh fruits and vegetables. In her younger years she loved to dance. On her birthday she danced to Celebration by Kool and The Gang. She enjoyed listening to all music and especially the Oldies but Goodies and her gospel hymns.
Joyce started her federal career in 1964 at National Oceanography Agency and continued her federal employment with several federal agencies including the Navy and Justice Department where she retired in 1997. During her federal career she received many awards and accolades for her dedicated service. For many years she was known as “The Avon Lady” to many family members, coworkers and friends. After retirement she worked part time for Safeway and Giant Food Stores. She loved working at the Safeway and Giant Food where she made many friendships with coworkers and customers. Her final retirement from Giant Food was in 2017.
