Obituary for JOSEPHINE RALPH

A TIME TO BE BORN Josephine was born February 4, 1934 to the late Joseph and Marion Chambliss in Macon, Georgia. She was the third of eight children. A TIME TO LIVE Josephine, affectionately known as Josie, grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and was educated in the public schools of Cincinnati. She later moved to New Jersey, where she met her husband, Alfred Ralph. They were joined in holy matrimony in 1952 and together they raised four children. After her husband’s death, she relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where she lived for a number of years. Eventually she moved to Maryland to live with her daughter. A TIME TO SERVE Josephine was a born-again spirit filled Christian. She lived in various locations on the East Coast, but always devoted and committed time to serve God. She attended Rockdale Baptist Church in Camden, New Jersey under the leadership of Rev. Fitton. She later attended Bethel Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida under the leadership of Rev. Rudolph McKissick. Her final place of worship was New Life Worship Center, in Capitol Heights, Maryland where she was a faithful member under the leadership of Pastor Sullivan McGraw. A TIME TO DIE Josephine’s faith, grace and fortitude were remarkable, even during her failing health. She had a quiet calm and knew that her life was a journey with God. Her journey on this side ended quietly on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 in Prince Frederick, Maryland. A TIME TO MOURN Josephine was preceded in death by one son, Alfred Ralph, Jr. She leaves to cherish and honor her memory one son, Michael Ralph; two daughters, Teresa Hopkins (Enoch) and Patricia Holland (Curtis); two sisters, Helen Pennington and Laura Smith; two brothers, Harold Pennington (Lois) and Thomas Chambliss (Jackie); six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and a host of other relatives, friends and her church family.
