Obituary for JOSEPH RAYFIELD JONES
Joseph R ayfield Jones was born on April 2, 1941 to the late Rudolph Costello and T heo Marie Jones. Affectionately known as Rayfield or Ray, he was educated in the Calvert County Public Schools System. He attended Brooks Senior High School until he left to help provide for the family. On March 21, 1964, he rn.arricd his life long love, Alberta Gray. Together they raised their four beautiful children and seven wonderful grandchildren. R ayfield was a hard worker, and worked for many years in tobacco with the help of his wife. He spent many years working in asphalt for llichard Jones, Schwallenberg Paving, Premier Paving, Sheehi Paving and Franky Graham. His diligence lead him to becoming foreman on most jobs. He also loved working on cars, and for many years he was a sought after mechanic. R ayfield loved cooking and grilling, and would go to great lengths to prepare the best meals for his family and friends. He loved traveling up and down the eastern seaboard preparing his special ribs for those who needed him. Even in his sickness, if you needed some, he would ready the grill and sit for hours until those ribs reached perfection and delivered them to you with a smile. In 2009, R ayfield acceptedJesus Christ as his Savior, and along with his wife Alberta joined the Church of God, where he served faithfully until his health prevented him from attending regularly. On Monday, August 20, 2018, Rayfield peacefully departed this life to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior J esus Christ. R ayfield was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers; William Jacks and Rudolph Jr. He leaves a wonderful legacy of love to be cherished by his loving wife of 54 years, Alberta; seven children: Shelvy Booth (Carter), R aykeefe, Nathaniel, Matthew, Cleon (Tracy), Derek (Christine), and Darryl (Anita); fifteen grandchildren, who were His children; three great grandchildren; two brothers: William Jones (Vonda) and Thomas Lorenzo Jones (Susan); four sisters: Lena Foote, Gloria Wallace, Barbara Jones (Paige) and Paulette Parker (Arnold); three brothers-in-law: Thomas Gray (Marietta), Jimmy Gray (Debra); and Lloyd Gray (Florence); one sister-in-law: Thelma Long (Howard); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
