Joseph Cephas Harrod, the son of the late John and Mabel Boots Harrod, was born on July 5, 1929 in Port Republic, Maryland. He was quietly called to rest on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at his home in Leonardtown, Maryland following a lengthy illness.
Joseph, known to many as Joe or Dick, was reared and educated in the public schools in Calvert County, Maryland.
In July 1951 Joseph joined the U.S. Anny where he served 8 years. Upon returning from the Army he was joined in holy matrimony to Helen White. From this union they had eleven children.
Joseph worked for Calvert County Public Schools and various local contractors, driving school buses for 40 years where he cherished and developed a great love for children. After retiring he did not sit still. He worked various landscaping jobs to keep himself busy. During the mornings he would stop by his grandkids homes leaving juice and Little Debbies on the doorsteps.
He was preceded in death by: his son, Robert Darrell; sister, Ella Mae Harrod; two grandchildren, Katrina Gross and Twain Harrod Jr. and two great-grandchildren, Termaine Gross, Jr. and Jaycee Harrod.
He leaves to cherish a loving and devoted wife of 57 years Helen Harrod; six sons, Twain, Leonardo (Maxine), Joseph Jr. , Gary, John (Lisa), Antonio; four daughters, Gail Long (Jerry), Arista, Cheryl, Jacqueline; brother John (Ruth); one aunt, Maggie Rice; one brother-in-law, Carl White; five sisters-in-law, Martha White, Madeline White, Sarah Brooks (Douglas), Annie Chase,
