Obituary for JOHN WILLIAM COATES
On Sunday, May 29, 2016 at 11:50 a.m., God sent His angels to Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Maryland to bring John home.
John (affectionately known as JC) was born in Sunderland, Maryland to the late Lillian Coates and Charles Emerson. He was educated in the Calvert County Public Schools System. He worked in construction and in tobacco - from seeding to hanging. He was also employed at Wayson's bingo hall and the Happy Harbor Restaurant in Deale, Maryland.
JC loved people and was a kind and gentle man. His laughter was contagious. He took life in stride. Even while sick, he never complained. When asked how he was feeling, he always said that he was "aw'ight". JC was a faithful patron of the local ball teams, especially the Owings Eagles. On any given day, you could find him sitting under the cherry tree on his late uncle's homestead chilaxing with cousins and friends.
Cherished memories of John will be shared by his wife, Mary; stepsons, Robert and Darrell; father-in-law, Dennis Sharps; sisters, Verla (Earl), Winda (William), Sandra, Elizabeth, Faye (Raymond), Regina, Rachel (Charles), Cassandra (Calvin), Terri Lee (Charles); brothers, Paul, Tony, Charles, Jerome (Barbara), Colvin (Sherry), Michael (Dorothy); sisters-in-law, Sylvia (Carlton), Janine, Sandra, Denene; brothers-in-law, Nathan (Alise), John, Marvin and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: Robert Coates, Ronald and Randy Cannon, Anthony Emerson and one nephew: Jeremy McKenzie.
