Obituary for JEAN CLAUDETTE BROOKS
Jean Claudette Brooks, 78, of Lusby, MD passed away on July 31, 2011 at her daughter's residence in Lusby, MD. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Nettie Clark and was born May 1, 1933, in Calvert County, Maryland. She was born and raised in Dowell, MD, and was educated in the public schools of Calvert County. She later moved to New York, where she resided for 48 years. Jean moved back to Calvert County in 2009 to live with her loving daughter, Regina and her son-in-law, Daniel. Jean was married to Robert Brooks, who preceded her in death. Jean was employed as a live-in domestic worker; worked and retired from the North Shore Hospital; and was also a health care provider for shut-in residents in her community. She was a longtime member of Community Baptist Church in Bayside, NY, and was a member of the Floral Committee, and the secretary to the Busy Bee Ministry. Fulfilling her life-long dream, Jean traveled to Israel with her church family. "MaMa Jean", as she was affectionately known, was a person who spoke her mind and was the first to help with any problem you might have had ... and would not take "NO" for an answer. Jean enjoyed being with her family and friends, cooking, crocheting, and doing crossword puzzles. Her favorite song was "Heaven On My Mind". She enjoyed fellowshipping with the members of the Church of God, Lusby, St. John UMC, and Eastern UMC. Preceding her in death were two children, Oliver Kirkwin Gross and Jacqueline Brooks; six siblings, James, Maurice, Marie, Carolyn, Vivian, and Earlene; one great-grandson, Shawn Wallace. "MaMa" Jean leaves to cherish many fond memories, one loving and devoted daughter, Carolyn Regina Butler (Daniel III); one son, Jonas “Andy” Brooks (Evelyn); two sisters, Ernestine Beverly, and Marva Weems; four sisters-in-law, Mabel, Irene, Maureen and Louise; three brothers-in-law, Warren, Johnny and Arthur; eleven grandchildren, Alicia, Ivy, Aisha, Maleek, Kareema, Keith, Erim, Jonas, Jr., Asuquo, Selena, Iyanga "Kiya", eleven great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren: one grandson-in-law, Vincent Barnes, Sr.; one adopted daughter, Cozzette Washington; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. MaMa Jean, you will be missed by all of us!
