Obituary for JAMES PARRAN ODELL FORD

James Parran Odell Ford, Sr., was born on November 24, 1942, in Calvert County, MD, to the late Alexander Parran and Margaret K. Ford. He slipped peacefully away home on June 22, 2015, at approximately 3:00 AM while at the Waugh Chapel Center in Gambrills, MD.

Jimmy grew up on the family farm in Dunkirk, MD on Ferry Landing Road. His recall of family history, stories and events were truly amazing. He was reared in a faithful household were prayers were daily and bible read. Coopers UM was his house of worship. (Raise up a child the way you would have them to go and as he grows older he will return). Jimmy did this. He accepted the Lord as his Savior and served Him faithfully as a lay speaker, usher, member of the Methodist Men, trustee, lay leader and choir member. His favorite scripture was Psalm 100. One of his favorite songs was "He's Sweet I Know." After leaving morning service at his home church, he would go to Mt. Hope and invite himself up to sing with whatever choir was singing that day.

Jimmy attended the one room school house on Hall's Creek hill until 5th grade; then the Mt. Hope Elementary School and onto W. S. Brooks High School where he graduated in June 1961. During his last year of high school, after school he traveled to Washington, DC with Ms. Annie Hawkins and Ms. Doris Senabach to work at O'Donnell Seafood Restaurant. He stayed with a family member at night and returned to school by way of the teachers the next day. He received an honorable discharge from the Army on March 31, 1970.

James and Laura Ann's wedding on December 30, 1995, connected two peas in a pod. Usually if you saw one the other was close by.

Jimmy never saw a dump truck that he did not like. He would drive anytime for anyone. JP Trucking was his company for a number of years. Later he began employment with the Calvert County School system. He remained there until retiring on disability in July 2007.

Jimmy loved to fish. He would sit for hours fishing to catch the breeze and maybe a fish or two. Cooking was another passion of his. everybody's kitchen was his kitchen. He would tell you real quick "move out the way." He genuinely loved people and was willing to help everyone. He knew every (old) family in Calvert County and maybe the State of Maryland. He loved to dress and everything had to match. He was a member of the W. S. Brooks High School Alumni Committee, the Gospel Messengers, and assisted with the feeding of Project Echo. Jimmy would leave your presence or end a phone call with "Have a Blessed day."

James lovingly leaves his wife, Laura A.; son, James P. O. Ford, Jr.; daughters, Angela F. Wallace, Pamela Ford and Alice Hurley; sons he loved as his own: Ricardo (Merrill), Michael (Alice) and Troy Hawkins; brothers: Calvert, Samuel and Charles (Martha) Ford; sisters: Cecelia Simms, Lillie (Robert) Pearson, Florence Johnson and Louise Hawkins; adopted sisters: Sarah (Lester) Johnson, Rachel, Porica and Ginny; great aunt, Mary (Methuselah) Pumphrey; aunts: Lillian Adams, Ruth Deloney, Thelma Hammett, Helen Briscoe, Hattie (Reginald) Denny, Emma Silas; brothers-in-law: Reginald (Nettie) Smith and Preston R. Vauls, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Gladys R. K. Evans. He was P Pa and Pop Pop Jimmy to eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother, Robert; and four uncles: Edward, Archie, Gantt and George Ford.
