Obituary for IRVIN RICHARD GROSS, SR.
Irvin Richard Gross, Sr., of the late Major Gross, Sr. and Emma. Johnson Gross, was born August 11, 1929, in Calvert County, MD and departed this life in the Calvert County Nursing Home on Tuesday, February 7, 2017.
Irvin united in holy matrimony to Daisy L. Weems on November 13, 1948. From this marriage, they were blessed with 3 sons, the late Pastor Irvin L. Gross, Jr., Sherman B. Gross, and Terrance J. Gross. Irvin was educated in the public schools of Calvert County, MD. He joined Eastern United Methodist Church in Lusby, MD at an early age. He was raised in a God-fearing home, where they always praised the Lord and sang Gospel songs. He was a faithful member of Eastern and he attended the Church of God in Huntingtown, MD. Irvin worked many years as a Waterman and a Laborer for Calvert and Prince George's (PG) County. While working in PG County he met many people including working alongside of Bishop TD. Jakes, before he became a Bishop. After getting off from work, Irvin would do side jobs that included, but was not limited to Landscaping. His many hobbies included fishing, singing, singing on the Male Choir at Eastern, playing baseball, dancing, raising a garden, and raising livestock. Irvin enjoyed being with his family, he loved family gatherings and always had encouraging words. He definitely was a people's person and kept you laughing. Irvin's love of his life was Daisy Weems, he always called her Duck. He often said, if he was in pain Daisy was his aspirin. Anything that she wanted, he made sure she had it, including his children. Irvin was a great provider for his family!
He was also known as Calhoun, Hood, Gross, and Papa.
Irvin leaves a Legacy of Love, Generosity and Devotion, that will be missed but never forgotten. Those that knew him will miss his love and giving spirit.
