Herman Walter Harris, Sr. was born November 20, 1944 in Calvert County, Maryland to the late Josephus Harris Sr. and Sadie Harris. God called Herman home on May 22, 2022.
Herman attended Calvert County Public Schools and graduated from W.S. Brooks High School class of 1962. He worked at various companies including R&W Trucking Company. He later returned to work for Calvert County public schools, until his health issues lead him to an early retirement.
In 1967 Herman’s fathered a son Herman Jr., who preceded him in death, and later a daughter Nancy Harris with Ruth Nedd.
On November 17, 1990 he married Cheryl Booth; although the marriage didn’t last, they remained friends until his death.
Herman was a man full of energy, love, and warmth. He loved his family and friends and had a strong sense of humor. His favorite radio station was WPFW. Herman was the “musical” one in the family. He played the piano, guitar and the mandolin. He loved to hand dance, and considered himself a ladies’ man.
Herman enjoyed doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. He was always in good spirits and enjoyed telling jokes and making people laugh.
He leaves to mourn his daughter Nancy Harris, two grand-daughters, Markey Harris and Toni Brewer, a great grand-daughter Makayla; his ex-wife Cheryl Harris; his siblings, Ethelene Morsell (Merle), Melvin, Josephus Jr. (Lillie); Henry (Doraine); Frances Harris; Celestine Harris; Diane Jordan (Elmer); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a special nephew Jerald Harris. He was preceded in death by siblings Helen and Page, and a sister-in-law Adelle.
