Obituary for HENRIETTA VIRGINIA BOURNE

In the afternoon on Saturday, March 2, 2013, God called His faithful servant, Henrietta Virginia Jackson Bourne to eternal rest. Henrietta was born January 21, 1918, to the late Horace and Mae Jackson in Calvert County, Maryland. She was the seventh of ten children who all preceded her in death. Henrietta, affectionately called Hennie, Hunnie and grand-ma-ma was well known in the community for her love of people, cooking, singing and her humming. She was an avid reader of the word of God and spent her life living according to his word. She attended school at the Old Saint Leonard School known as the one room school. After attending school she did domestic work in the Saint Leonard and Island Creek area. On November 9, 1940, Henrietta was united in holy matrimony to the late William Leroy Bourne, known as Buncie. From this union seven children were born. Henrietta became a member of Brooks United Methodist Church. She spent many years singing in the Senior Choir and the Utopians Choral Singers. While singing with the Utopians, she traveled to Annapolis where the group ministered God’s Words on the WANN Radio Station. Henrietta really loved her family. You would find her doing any and everything she could do for her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren could be found sitting at the table enjoying her homemade meals, cakes and root beer; her stories of her childhood days along with plenty of wisdom to help each of them through their journeys. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Buncie of seventy-two years; her daughter, Marilyn; grandson, Michael; great-grandson, Rodney; great-granddaughter, Angel and great-great grandson, Anthony. She leaves to continue to celebrate her life two sons; Clinton (Maude) and Gary; four daughters, Gertrude, Mae, Olive and Marrietta; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
