Obituary for HATTIE MARIE JONES

Hattie Marie Jones (Sis) was called home on Tuesday, September 17, 2013. She was born in Lothian, Maryland on June 12, 1937 to the late Charles and Ellen Jones.

She received her education in the Anne Arundel County school system and was a graduate of Bates High School class of 1956. She attended Cosmetology School and received her license. She passed the Prince George's County, Department of Health Foods exam and received her Certified Food Service Manager license in 2005.

Hattie had an extensive career in the food industry. Her first job was at Big Boy's at Wayson Corner working along-side her mother and Aunt Alice. She was one of the first black waitresses to work at the Annapolis Naval Academy in the early fifties. Her career journey took her to Mister Donut, Tucker Restaurant, Bonfire Restaurant, Tucker Inn, Mr. Dee's, Capitol Carryout, Meadows, and Marcello's Grill.

Hattie had a kind heart and was quick to nurture any soul in need. She also had a firm hand and never backed down from any confrontation. Everyone in the community that knew Hattie loved her. She was a friend, mom or grandma to everyone she met. Every customer she waited on knew her by name and only had kind words to say about her. She was always the life of the party, loved to play cards, and scrabble. She was no stranger to music and loved her down home blues. She loved to prepare Sunday dinners for her family and a plate for anyone that walked through the door. Her white potato pie was the best in Anne Arundel County. Hattie loved her family (especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren) and friends unconditionally.

Hattie leaves behind: her children, Arelia (Wayne) Neal, Ardessa Jones, Andrea Jones, Omega Jones, and Ellen Jones; grandchildren, Darnell Walls, Melissa Jones, Keshia Brown, Christopher Lee, Awdry Lee, Jasmine Washington, Brittany Lee; great-grandchildren, Darnell Walls Jr., DeAndre Walls, Dramuru Davis, Queen Chambers, Alivia Loher, Danielle Walls, Donell Phillips, Aubreigh Barnett, Arelia Venerable; brother, Charles (Patricia) Jones; aunts, Ella Colbert, Mary S.
