Obituary for Gladys Audrey Smith

Gladys Audrey (Jacks) Smith was born October 21, 1913 in Owings, MD.  She was born to the late Louis Robert Jacks and the late Sarah (Rice) Jacks.  She had one sister Georganna Jacks (deceased) and two brothers, Alvin and Winfield Jacks.
Gladys attended Calvert County public schools and was a permanent resident of Calvert County.  Gladys was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Leitcher Smith.  She had three children; Robert L. Wilson, Theodore Holland both deceased and Marydell (Smith) Jones. Gladys loved working.  She was employed at the Stallings-Williams Post 206 (American Legion) in Chesapeake Beach, MD for over 40 years.  Gladys loved her family and enjoyed spending quality time with them all. There was nothing she liked more than entertaining in her home and cooking huge meals.  Often she could be heard saying, Eat up! What you dont see on the table, theres more in the ice box!  When Gladys was not cooking, she enjoyed playing games such as dominoes and cards, crocheting and sewing.  She was a big Bingo player! Gladys love the Lord.  Her favorite saying was Standing on the Promises of God My Savior.  She was a long time member of Carters United Methodist Church.
In the dawn hours of January 3, 2008, with quiet dignity, Gladys Audrey (Jacks) Smith went home to Glory. Gladys leaves to cherish her memories: her beloved daughter Marydell C. (Smith) Jones;  two daughter-in-laws, Hortense Wilson and Gladys Holland; twenty-three grandchildren, fourty great-grandchildren, thirty great-great-grandchildren, two great-great-great-grandchildren, one god-son, Thomas Gray, and a host of relatives and friends.  Special friends, Margaret Bishop for over fifty years and Helen Ray. Gladys Audrey (Jacks) Smith will always be remembered for her fried chicken, potato salad, oysters, pigs feet, macaroni & cheese, and a menu that made everyone feel welcome!
