Obituary for Geraldine Murphy Reid

Geraldine Murphy Reid, 73 of Lusby, MD, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at her residence. She was born July 9, 1935 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Jerry Dean Murphy and the late Cecila Beeman Murphy.
At an early age she was converted and joined the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL. As a teenager she moved to Phoenix City, AL where she joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church and served on the Junior Usher Board.
After graduating high school in Phoenix City, Geraldine moved to New York City where she married James D. Reid, Sr. To this union two children were born, James D. Reid, Jr. and Maxine A. Reid.
She married Charles E. Ferrebee, companion of 29 years, until he passed in May 2000.
Geraldine attended Adelphi University in Garden City, NY where she obtained a Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Social Work. After thirty-five dedicated years of service to children and families she retired in 1997 to Maryland.
Geraldine was the eldest of five children. Willie Gene, Gwen, and Brother Elmore Murphy preceded her in death.
Surviving are her children, James (wife, Sonja) of Highpoint, NC and Maxine A. Reid of Lusby, MD; two grandchildren, Latasha Reid of Highpoint, NC and JaQuan Watkins of Lusby, MD; a great grandchild, Ricardo Reid; a brother Harold Murphy of Chicago, IL; an aunt, Minnie Washington of Chicago, IL; a host of other relatives and friends.
