Obituary for GRACE S. GREENE
Grace Shirley Greene was born in the city of Sunderland, Calvert County, Maryland on December 17, 1929, to the late Leroy(Roy) and Gertrude Hunter. Grace was the youngest of six children. She had four sisters and two brothers, Her sister Ruby (Deceased), Martha Coats (Eran), Ella Jacks (Robert), Dorothy Brown ( Issac), her brothers were James Hunter (Mary) and Elijah (Estelle).
A time to grow. Grace was educated in the Calvert County School System. She loved learning and continued her education when possible in adult night school classes, at the tender age of 14 she went to Washington, DC to work for a family as a nanny, she spent two years there, before returning home to her parents. As a young lady she loved to care for others and would soon meet and care for the love of her life. A time to love. Grace was known to be a quiet and loving teenager. Once she met her future husband she said to him, "when you return from the war, I'll be here waiting to marry you." Upon his return to the United States, from his second tour of duty in World War ll, Alfred Carlton Greenekept his promise to marry the beautiful young Grace Hunter. Grace would not be denied the love that God had her and Alfred Greene would prove to be a man of his word with both God and Grace Hunter. Their short courtship quickly yielded to marriage on August 17, 1946. From their union , they produced 14 children and a host of grand, great-grand, and great great- grandchildren. Grace spent most of her married years as a homemaker and raising her children. Besides family and her church, she enjoyed good food. There was nothing like a good piece of fried fish, chocolate cake or Neapolitan ice cream to light up her life. A time to give. Once her children were grown she was determined to get her drivers license and contribute financially to the household. After many attemps, she finally succeeded in getting her license. She secured a job with Cemon Research lab, where she worked as an Office Assistant, her final job was at the Navy Research in Randles Cliff. She gave of her time caring for others, she love music, poetry and reading her Bible. First and foremost, Grace was a prayful woman, devoted wife, mother and church member. She was a faithful member of the Church if the Lord Jesus Christ of the apostlic Faith for more than 60 years. She loved singing with the church choir and frequently traveled with the church to sing. Grace was made a Church Mothef, she served as an apostle aid and served on several other committees. A time to say, peace be unto you. In her final days, Grace was being cared for by her daughter Marjorie M. Greene and son Wayne Greene. She left this life of natural causes. Grace was 89years of age when God called her home on May7, 2019, As God called her home, she gave her final breath in the arms of her daughter Marjorie, one of her final caregivers. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her 91 -year old sister, Ella C Hunter-Jacks, all fourteen of her children: Alfred (Joann) Greene Sr, Maurice (Pearl) Greene Sr, Matthew (Veronica) Greene Sr, Valerie (Joseph) Greene, James J.Greene Sr., Marjorie M.Greene aka Marsha, Anita Greene-Wills(Ricky), Carolyn Greene-Traore( Sanoussy), Spencer C Greene, Jeffrey j Greene, Anthony W Greene, Wayne E Greene, Dwight C Greene, and Samuel S Greene. A host of grand children, great grand children and great-great grandchildren. Grace will be missed deeply by all who knew her. Special love ones included her church members and close friends: Ms Ernestine Jenes, Elouise Titus, Blanche Johnson-Greene, Wilamae Jones, Sister Ruby Mae Calhourn, Lord John Thomas, Mother Laura Braggs, Lady Bernice Clark, Sister Shirley Alexander, Bishop Omega and Wife Lady Donna Shelton.
Grace is proceded in death by her parents Leroy and Gertrude Hunter, her faithful husband of 63 years Alfred Carlton Greene, three sisters, Martha Hunter-Coates, Dorothy Hunter-Brown, and Ruby Hunter. Two brothers Elijah & James Hunter, best friends Evelyn Holland and Martha Greene.
