Obituary for GLINDA C. ANDERSON
Glinda Copeland Anderson was born August 20, 1943 in Washington, D.C. the third child from the union of the late Leroy Calvin and Ella Becton Copeland.
On May 23, 1968, Glinda and the love of her life, Kenneth M. Anderson, Jr., were joined in Holy matrimony. Three children were born to this union. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and for a while she was an awesome dancer. She was a devoted wife and loving mother.
Glinda started her Christian life at Bethesda Baptist Church at an early age where she was baptized. She was baptized again in Jerusalem, Israel in the Jordan River on November 18, 1987. She remained a dedicated, faithful and devoted member of the Lord serving as an Evangelist of the Word at True Deliverance Church of God and Bethel Outreach Ministries. Glinda truly loved the Lord.
Glinda was educated in the District of Columbia Public Schools. She received a Master's Degree in Public Administration at Sojourner-Douglass College, October 2002; Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Associate Dcg1-cc in Science with a Minor in Psychology and Political Science at University of DC, 1987; Master of Divinity at Faith Bible University; Doctor of Divinity at Eastern American University, 1989; Associate Degree, Human Services and OETAS Certification at the College of Southern Maryland, May 1999.
She served as a Human Resource Specialist, Program Developer, Program Coordinator, Facilitator, Family Child Care Provider, Resident Advocator, Substance Abuse Counselor, Computer Specialist, Property Manager, Historian , Evangelist, and Theologian.
Glinda was employed by the U.S. Labor Department where she served faithfully from 1969 to 1996 as a Computer Specialist. She retired on April 15, 1996, after 27 years of service.
Glinda was involved in a lot of organizations up to her passing: Founder and President of Living Waters, Inc; Member of the Board of Directors for the National Congress of Black Women (NCBW) ; President of the NCBW Calvert County Chapter; Executive Director of Widows and Orphans of God; President of the Golden Rule Christian Endeavor Union; Member of the Treatment and Rehabilitation Committee for the Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuses Program; Member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Calvert County Chapter.
Glinda was involved with other organizations in her lifetime: Executive Director of the Victory Drug Center; Equal Employment Opportunity Counselor for the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Administration and Management ( OASAM); OASAM Chief Steward for Local 12, Mentor Program at the U.S. Labor Department; Secretary on the Calvert County Commission on Human Relations; Member of the Advisory Committee for the Calvert County School Board; Member of the Calvert County Concerned Citizens; Chairperson on the Board of Directors of the Women's Center of Calvert County; Delegate to Zambia for the League of Women Voters.
Glinda is survived by her husband, Kenneth M. Anderson Jr, son Kenneth M. Anderson III (Stacia), daughter Kimberly M. Mason (Lloyd), brother, Frank R. Copeland (Sandra); 2 sisters, Mabel Copeland-Demby, and Doris Copeland-Young (I.C.), 2 sisters-in-law, Donna Copeland and Paula Copeland; 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her son: Keith M. Anderson; and 4 brothers: Leroy Copeland, Calvin Copeland, Michael Copeland, and Hosea Copeland.
