Gladys was baptized at Bethel Way of the Cross Church in Huntingtown, Maryland, under the leadership of the late Bishop Jacob Green. She sang on the Senior Choir.

She was employed as a Cook at the Calvert House Nursing Home and was a Housekeeper at Trinity United Methodist Church in Prince Frederick, Maryland.
