Obituary for GERALD J. JOHNSON
Gerald Justine Johnson departed this life on Monday, May 16, 2022, at his home in Baltimore, Maryland after courageously battling a long illness. Gerald was one of ten children born on May 5, 1946, to the late Herbert and Verna Johnson in Calvert County, MD. Gerald graduated from William Sampson Brooks High School in 1964. He proudly served in the United States Air Force as a jet mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1969. He lived most of his adult live in Baltimore, MD. He was a dedicated employee at General Motors as an Assembly Technician for over 30 years before retiring in 2005. Gerald was previously married to Audrey Clark, and later wedded Regina Jones Johnson. Through his union with Regina, he gained a bonus son, Gus Henderson and a granddaughter, Shakira Henderson. Gerald was fun-loving and displayed a great love for family and friends. He was extremely generous and would help anyone in need. You know the saying, “one would give the shirt off of their backs”, well Gerald would literally give you the shoes off his feet. He exemplified being an impeccable dresser; meaning, his attire was always “crisp and creased” (a well-known Foote trait). Gerald was health conscious and very well-informed about herbs and home remedies. He was knowledgeable and very opinionated about politics and current events. The family believes he will be joining his sister, Vera “Sis” as a heavenly correspondent and critic for CNN! In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his bonus son, Gus Henderson, three sisters, Susie Porch, Joyce Patterson, and Vera Gray, four brothers, Amos, Thomas, Herbert, and Archie Johnson. Gerald leaves many fond memories to his brothers, Louis “Buck” Johnson, and Gregory (Sheila) Johnson, granddaughter Shakira Henderson, aunts Eliza and Teresa Foote; sisters-in-law Elizabeth and Regina Johnson; a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, including Michelle Patton, special friends, Everett McArthur and Yvonne Henderson, former spouse Regina Jones Johnson, other relatives and friends.
