GRIEF & HEALING
affirmations to uplift & help you through
each stage of the grieving process.
George Thomas Henson was born on May 10, 1933 in Adelina, Maryland. He was the first of eleven children born to the late George and Gladys Henson. He was called to eternal rest at the
Charlotte Hall Veteran's Home in St. Mary's County on Monday, October 31, 2016.
Thomas was born and raised in Calvert County. He received his education there, and then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army. After completing his active duty tour, he served eight years as a U.S. Army Reservist. When Thomas returned to Calvert County, he worked as a brick mason, cement finisher, and union carpenter. He then moved on to start his own business as a cross-country tractor-trailer driver, which he did for several years before calling West Virginia home. In West Virginia, after retiring from the truck-driving business, he moved on to work as a building engineer at the Veteran's Medical Center in Martinsburg, West Virginia. Thomas fully-retired after several years at the Veteran's Medical Center so he could enjoy bowling, fishing, race cars, restoring cars, traveling, and family. Most of all, he enjoyed joking with others and making everyone laugh.
Growing up, Thomas attended Carroll Western UM Church, where he was a member of the Carroll Western Methodist Men. When he moved to West Virginia, he joined Mount Zion United Methodist Church, under Pastor Edward Hall. While there, he was an usher, he sang with the men's choir, and was a member of the Methodist Men. Thomas loved attending church, good preaching, and listening to gospel music. Thomas also belonged to the American Legion Post #220 and Prince Hall # 71 Victoria Lodge.
Thomas was married to Ethel Polk, until her death in 1971. He later remarried Anna B. Hosby.
Thomas leaves to cherish the memory of his life, love, and laughter, his loving wife, Anna; his daughter, Helen "Lula" Durant; and his step-daughters, Darlene "Candy" Brooks and Patricia Hosby. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Ralph and Kishia Durant, Candi Brooks and Aaron Jones; and his great-grandchildren, Braylen Carter and Zion Collins; his brothers and sisters Joseph, Phillip (Deloris), Lily, Gladys Regina, Charles (Maria), Larry (Yvonne), Monroe (Mary), Marcus, and Clarence "Owen" (Christine). Thomas also leaves behind his loving aunt, Oreese Stanback; and his life-long, dedicated friend, Richard Newman. Thomas is preceded in death by his parents George and Gladys and his sister, Agnes. Also left to cherish his memory are many nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
