Obituary for GEORGE EDWARD JOHNSON
George Edward Johnson was born on August 8, 1942 in Charles County, Maryland to the late Irene Marie Gray and Adrien Short. George was raised by the late James Alton Gray. He transitioned from this life on Wednesday, June 27th at the Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.
George was educated in the Charles County Public School system. September 20, 1969, George married the love of his life, Faynette Howard. Their union was blessed with beautiful daughters. His family was his life.
After marrying the love of his life and moving to Calvert, George became a faithful member of Eastern United Methodist Church. He wore many hats until his health began to fail him. He was a faithful member of the Eastern Jubilees Choir, Trustee Board, East-John Youth Center Board, Usher Board and the Emergency Crisis Committee just to name a few of his faithful acts in serving the Lord. George was a hard- working man. He retired in 2005 from ABM Construction.
George is well-known for helping the community especially when it came to outdoor tasks; because he loved being outside. You could see his big smile a mile away. George, for 35 years, looked forward to his annual Father's Day family and friends trip to King's Dominion. George loved line dancing, and his favorite team was The Redskins. However, George's BIGGEST challenge was keeping (Nett) Faye in line.
Left to cherish his memories are his devoted wife: Faynette; daughters: Melissa (John); Charlene; Katina (Floyd) and LaMonica (Paul); grandchildren: Latisha Bolt, Travonta Johnson, Alexia and Avery Hansborough; brothers: Thomas Short (Joyce) and James Gray II (Glenda) and a host of other relatives and friends.
He is also preceded in death by his daughter Sherl Denise Howard.
