Obituary for GENIE WILBOURN, JR.
Genie Wilbourn Jr., (Gene) was born July 29, 1944 in Marks, Mississippi to Genie Wilbourn Sr., and Jannie Lee Wilbourn. Gene departed this life at 5:30am at his home on October 25, 2021 with wife Gloria and daughter Genia at his bedside. Gene was a long time member of Zion Wesley UMC. On moving to Charles County to Calvert County he transferred his membership to Mount Olive UMC.
Gene was educated in the public school system of Toledo, Ohio. Upon graduation from high school he worked for the Ford Motor Company (Flint, MI). He served in the U. S. Air Force. On leaving the Military, Gene worked as a lineman/telephone installer with the C&P Telephone Company. He excelled up the ranks at Verizon to the position of "Director of Operations" and retired after 33 years. He received an Associate’s Degree in Electronics from Prince George's County Community College, and a technical degree in Solid State Technology from TESST College of Technology.
Aside from his unconditional love for his family, he was a big football fan. He was a season ticket holder with the Washington Redskins and he enjoyed Fantasy Football. He also loved watching tennis, specifically Serena Williams. Gene had a vision when he retired to build a home for his family on the water where he could enjoy fishing and crabbing. He enjoyed playing pinochle with his siblings, family holidays and gatherings, listening to music {Doo wop, R&B, country and Blues} He was very intelligent, humble, loving-yet firm. He was resilient, mild-mannered, a fighter and he always put his family first. His love for Gloria, his wife was priceless. Gene touched so many lives and will be truly missed but never forgotten.
Gene leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Gloria L. Wilbourn. His children Trenita Ashlock, Reverend Dr. Alexander Duncan Jr. (Valerie), Michael A. Duncan, Ronald J. Duncan, Genia Wilbourn, and Brian Bell (April). His siblings Marrise Williams (Clarence), Alice Williams (James), Richard Wilbourn (Bernadette), Shirley Lanier and Beverly Wilbourn Watson (Alan). A dear cousin Albert "Red" Brown; long time friends Jodie Littlefield and James "Weasel" Savoy; 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, aunts/uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Gene was preceded in death by his father Genie Wilbourn Sr., and his mother Jannie Lee Wilbourn.
