Obituary for FREDA ELIZABETH REID

Freda Elizabeth Reid was born on July 21, 1936, in Willows, Maryland to Hortense and the late David Brown. She was called to eternal rest on May 18, 2018 surrounded by her family after a brief illness.

Freda was educated in Calvert County Public Schools. She was a dedicated worker at Rod N Reel for thirty-three years. Before retiring, Freda worked for Sea Breeze in Chesapeake Beach where she continued to share her expertise in culinary arts and pleasing the palate of everyone who she came in contact with, regardless of age.

On April 5, 1958, she was united in holy matrimony to the late, Calvin Joseph Reid and from the union they were blessed with seven children. Freda was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She made sure they were always blessed with home cooked meals before leaving the house every morning. Everyone appreciated the meals even the men in the tobacco field after a hard day's work. She took pride in preparing special holiday meals, there were no meals that she could not prepare. Some of her famous dishes were french toast, potato salad, sweet potato pies, chocolate and coconut cake, homemade biscuits, and her famous root beer. Freda, also known affectionately as, "Momma;' "Nana;' "Grandma;'
and "Be Be" to all who knew and loved her.

Freda had many roles, one being the neighborhood daycare provider and the neighborhood watch. And let us not forget the many times she would get on the school bus to address the bus driver and the children whom she thought were "messing" with her "babies”.

In her earlier years, she attended St. Edmonds United Methodist Church under the leadership of Rev. Frank Chambers. She was baptized in 2000 and became a member of Emmanuel Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a devoted usher and assisted with the food pantry ministry. She followed her morals in life by insisting that all of her children say their prayers together every night before going to bed.

Freda leaves to cherish her fond memories, her mother, Hortense "Big Momma" Brown; her seven children, Thelma Lorraine, Joseph Lorenzo, Hortense Linda, Calvin MacAuthur (Natasha), Howard Cordell (Angela), Walter Wendell (Malinda), Troye Leon (Twanda) Reid; twenty-six grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; siblings, Delores A. Jones, William David (Maxine), Gladys Brown, Catherine Blacknall, Mrytle Josephine(Calvin) Johnson, and Donnell Crisfield; one sister-in-law, Florence Thompson; brother-n-law, James Claggett, Sr; two aunts, Dorothy Dixon and Catherine Gardner; one devoted God daughter, Janine Brooks; a special great nephew, Terrence Brooks; a devoted niece, Vanessa Brown-Harrod; bodyguard, Terry Brooks; special friends, Gertrude Brown, Corina Chase, Arnella Stepney, and Madeline Gross; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Freda was preceded in rest by her husband, Calvin Joseph Reid; her father, David William Brown; grandchildren, Carnine and Jamine Reid, Tareeka and Terrod Jones; siblings, William Lafayette "Feet" and Russell Alexander Brown; four brothers-in-law; and nine sisters-in-law.
