Obituary for FRED W. HOLLAND
Fred Wardell Holland was born on January 31, 1933 in Calvert County, Maryland. After a brief illness he was called to his heavenly home on August 8, 2011 at Washington Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park, MD. He was the second child born to the late Carroll and Rachel Holland. Fred was educated in the Calvert County school system, and served in the Army as first sergeant for 3.5 years, after leaving the military he worked for John H. Davis as an journeyman electrician. Later, Fred took a supervisory position as an electrical foreman with the District of Columbia Parks and Recreation until retirement. He retired from the District Government in December, 1991. Fred married the love of his life, the former Thelma Ann Proctor from Clinton, Maryland on June 27, 1958. Of this 53 year union four beautiful children were created, Zida, Jacqueline, Beverly (Thomas) and Darold (Tesa). Fred was first and foremost, a devoted loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and generous friend. Fred’s life was blessed and fulfilled with lots of happiness and joy. He was always laughing, talking, and entertaining friends and family. If searching for Fred in the lost and found, he could always be found amongst his best friends, (AKA, Jims), Benjamin Ray, William Holland, Lawrence Gray, Calvin Wills, Kelvin Morsell (Kelly), Gilbert Jones, and Thurman Adams. Fred thoroughly loved his heavenly father within his own personal and special way. In his life time, he enjoyed partying and traveling with family and friends to places like the Caribbean, Aruba, Grand Cayman, Cozumel Mexico, Belize, the Bahamas, and Bermuda, as well as Canada, NewYork, South Carolina, New Orleans (Mardi Gras), and Okinawa Japan. He especially loved cruising the Carnival and the Royal Caribbean Cruise lines, and in his final days having communion with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Preceding him in death were his parents, Carroll and Rachel Holland; two sisters, Odell Gorman and June Childress; father and mother-in law, Horace and Della Proctor, and three brothers-in-law, Joseph and Francis Proctor and Edward May. Fred leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife and friend, Thelma Ann Holland, his four children; Zida, Jacqueline, Beverly (Thomas), and Darold (Tesa); five grandchildren, Ryan, Amarie, Brittanii, Darold Jr., and DeAira; five great-grandchildren, Cameron, Maria, Taevon, Jeremiah, and Laiya. One sister; Vera Mae Holland, two brother-in laws; Marvin (Margaret) Proctor and Paul (Cecilia) Proctor, and three sisters-in-law; Hazel Butler, Theresa (Sterling) Colbert, and Grace May, and a host of other relatives, nieces, nephews, and friends.
