On July 7, 2010 at 12:56 p.m. Frances went home to be with the Lord.Frances Elaine (Davis) Purnell was born on March 14, 1955 in Columbia, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Rufus Mannie Davis, Sr. and Lorene "Lorraine" (Floyd) Davis. The Davis family moved to Washington DC the same year of her birth. Frances would spend her early childhood and teenage life enjoying being raised in the Parkside neighborhood of Northeast, Washington, DC. Frances was excited to attend school. Her academic journey began at Neval Thomas Elementary School and Woodson Jr. High School, Washington DC. She also attended Garnet Patterson Jr. High and Cardoza High School, Washington DC, where she was on track to graduate in 1973. Frances never ever gave up on pursuing her dream of earning a high school diploma. In 1985, after long hours, hard work and determination she received her Diploma from Suitland High School. She was ecstatic! After receiving her Diploma she entered into a Sheet Metal Apprenticeship Program. She enjoyed the challenges and rewards she earned while employed by the Stromberg Sheet Metal Company.
In the summer of 1983 Frances would meet and work for her future husband, Clyde Purnell in his Building Service business. Their friendship turned out to be an everlasting one. On July 23, 1992 these two best friends were united in holy matrimony in Alexandria, Virginia.
Her desire to stay home and raise her last child from birth resulted in her getting a Child Care Provider License in 1987. In 1991, she opened the Sunrise Sunset Day Care Center, in Takoma Park, MD and later the business would move to Silver Spring, MD. Frances nurtured and cared for all the children as if they were her own. Because of her reputation as a five star child care provider, she always had a waiting list. Frances received many awards, commendations and certificates from the State of Maryland, Montgomery County and the Child Care Association and affiliates.
Frances loved to experience new walks of life. After her career in child care she still wanted to be involved with children in some way, this would lead her to successfully get her Commercial Drivers License. Frances loved working with the Montgomery County Public School System some of the jobs she held were, School Bus Driver, Crossing Guard, Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Summer Camp Counselor at New Hampshire Estates/Oakview Extended Learning Opportunity (ELO) program, and especially being a School Health Room Assistant (Nurse Aide) at Takoma Park Middle School, she loved the students immensely. Frances made sure that her two girls were introduced to many activities; Girlscouts (Troops 314 and 77), dance, gymnastics, karate, horseback riding and many of other social events and church activities.
Frances loved her children more than anything. She enjoyed visiting St. Luke U. M. Church and hearing the Word of God whenever she was visiting her mother-in-law. She also loved listening and dancing to the music of James Brown, cooking new and healthy meals for her family, especially Clyde. Frances loved reading the newspapers and looking at her favorite TV show, Law and Order. Sky diving was always on her list of things to do, but had a fear of flying, that's all been taken care of, now.

Frances departed this earthly life unexpectantly and leaves behind to cherish her memory are her husband Clyde W. Purnell, three absolutely wonderful children, two beautiful daughters Marquita R. Stitt-Carter(Leroy) Temple Hills, MD and Brittany R. Purnell (Silver Spring, MD), one son Christopher S. Davis (Sandy Spring, MD). She is also survived one sister Betsy P. Davis (Virginia Beach, VA) and one Brother Rufus M. Davis, Jr. (Silver Spring, MD), four grandchildren Quentin, Antonio, De'Andre and Anastasia and host nieces and nephews. Family members that will miss her dearly are Marie Young (Mother-in-law) and sister-in-laws Linda M. Purnell and Robin P. Johnson, brother-in-laws Silas L. Young, Jr., John E. Young, Sr. (Louise), Patrick S. Young (Ingrid). Frances was predeceased by he father-in-law, Silas L. Young, Sr.
Frances we will miss your big smile and your hearty laughter that exuded Love with a Godly radiance that touched everyone's heart.
