Obituary for FLORENCE EUNICE GROSS
Florence Eunice Gross, "Mama Lue", was born December 2, 1926 in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Florence and John Stewart. She entered eternal rest on July 11, 2018 at home, surrounded by her family.
Mama Lue attended the public schools of Calvert County. For several years, she was a domestic worker in New York, she also worked for the United States Postal Service in Washington, DC. Mama Lue worked during the school year cooking at W.S. Brooks High School and spent many summers cooking at the YMCA Camp Mohawk in Huntingtown, Maryland. Her last job was with the Tri-County Head Start as a cook.
Mama Lue loved to go fishing with her husband in the boat he named after her, the "Mama Lue". She enjoyed shopping, canning, cooking, tasting everyone else's food, and being a family historian. Lue loved to travel, especially her yearly trip to North Carolina.
Mama Lue had been a member of Carroll, Mt. Olive, and Carroll Western United Methodist Churches. She was a faithful member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Gray-Ray Post 220 and the Eastern Star.
Mama Lue leaves to mourn and share her memories 8 children: Sherlyn Thornton, Sandra Jones (Gaines), Denise Wilkins, Stewart Gross (Tawny), Rodney Gross (Oprah), James Gross (Stephanie), Aretha Wills, and Carmen Calhoun; son, Delmar Gross (Louise), a special "daughter", Delithia Gross, daughter-in-law Wilhelmina Stewart, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, special nieces, nephews, cousins, and caring friends.
Mama Lue was preceded in death by her husband, Major Gross; son, John M. Stewart; siblings: Dorothy Freeland, Gladys Stewart, Marguerite Gross, John Melvin Stewart, and H. Jeannette Sherbert.
