Obituary for FERN VISTA JEFFERSON
Fern Vista Weems Jefferson peacefully slipped away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Calvert Memorial Hospital. She was born on August 21, 1955 to the late Thomas Isaac Weems, Sr. and Eunice Viola Sutton Weems who preceded her in death. Being the only girl in the family at the time, she became a "daddy's girl." However, when years later and upon the arrival of two more girls, she was proud to share her role. Fern, who was nicknamed Corny, was one of nine children whom she loved so dear.
She attended Appeal Elementary School, Calvert Middle School and Calvert High School, graduating in 1973. While in Elementary School, she met a little boy named Freddy who seemed to find favor in her. They began to write love notes, to one another. By and by through the years they agreed to join their hearts together in holy matrimony. On January 16, 1981 theywere married. From this union were born four wonderful children. Fem was a wonderful mother who loved doting on her children. She also enjoyed taking her children, grandchildren and nieces and nephews to amusement parks.
Fern chose early on in life to study the Word of God. She chose the Holy Bible (King James Version) which dramatically changed her life. She lived a holy life unto God that soon persuaded her husband to seek God. Eventually he too chose to live for the Lord. They blossomed together on this wonderful mission to serve the Lord. She was fascinated with encouraging everyone with whom she came into contact.
She loved people and choose to work as a teacher's aide and nurse's aide. Later, she became a contract carrier for the United States Postal Service where she served for nearly 30 years. She also loved restoring antique furniture.
In 2009 Fem was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. But she did not let that deter her from serving the Lord. She continued going to church and singing on the Senior Choir. She also enjoyed singing with her cousins in their group simply called "Family." Years later she could no longer sing. However, she kept going to church to the very end. She was determined not to give up on God. Holding on to her most holy faith, Fern's life encourages all us to never give up on God because he won 't give up on us.
Fern leaves many imprints of precious memories and a legacy of love that will be cherished by her loving and devoted husband, Frederick, Sr.; four children: Frederick, Jr., Brian (Ashley), Monica and Dwaine; ten grandchildren: Austin, Christopher, Deangelo, Desiree, Briana, Avianna, Aniyah , Aubree, Alivia, and Mariah; two great grandchildren:, Jullian and London; five brothers: Lee Frederick Weems (Jane); Desi Weems (Gail), Tyrone Weems (Janice), Ivan Weems (April) and Seth Weems; two sisters: Faith Taylor and Hope Bush (John); one sister-in-law: Mary Weems (Thomas preceded Fern in death); one brother-in-law, Robert Jefferson; six aunts: Marie Gross, Delores Tomey, Gertrude Johnson, Anna Weems and Genevieve Brown (Milton); two goddaughters: Rhonda Charles and Lakiya Parker; ex-daughter-in-law, Jessica; special friends: Vanessa Willett, Linda Parker, Gail Gross, Nichola Gross and Patricia Gross; and a host of family and friends.
