Obituary for Elias A. Jones, Sr.

Elias Eli Allen Jones, Sr. was born February 4, 1926, although later he was told he was born February 1, 1926, which did not matter, because he didnt mind celebrating two birthdays, and departed us physically at his residence on April 18, 2008, after a lengthy illness.
Most of his life was spent in Calvert County.  After being drafted and serving in the Army, Eli eagerly returned home to marry his Boo, Beatrice Holland on January 8, 1947.  From this union 5 children were born.
He was a skilled laborer and brick mason.  The majority of his career was with Calvert County Public schools, working at Calvert Elementary School, where he touched many lives, young and old.
His true calling, however, was his work in the ministry, preaching the word of God.  He was a faithful member and leader at New Mount Zion Apostolic Church for over forty years.  Under the pastoralship of Bishop Leon Powell, Elias was appointed to the position of Assistant Pastor, where his leadership and guidance will live on as a testament to his faith and power.  He shared the Gospel with everyone (even those who didnt want to or wouldnt listen).
Eli was a strong patriarch to a robust and rambunctious family; he brought strength and might to all.  Many times you would find a house full of people; smiling, laughing, enjoying a Western TV show or a Boxing Match.  Whether being Dad, Granddaddy or Pop Pop, he was there no matter what.
His parents, William and Mary Jones, as well as brothers, James and Eddie; sisters, Florence, Mabel, Gladys, Alice, and Grandson-In-Law, Ravelle, preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife and partner of sixty-one years, Beatrice Jones; four sons- Elias Allen, Jr. Sonny, Leonard Edward, Sr. Bug, Oliver Lee Footie, and Milford Sylvester; daughter-Velma Maxine Wiseman; brother-William; ten grandchildren-Latonia My Crazy Girl, Oliver, Jr. Pokey, Tameka Meka, Leonard Bodie, Sylvester Donte, Levonne Dee, Leon AC, Chaquetta Poogie, Shawnae Nae and Trinity Trin Trin thirteen great grandchildren-Deinez DJ, Trevon, Jalen, Mykal, Haley, Tatiana, Chantae ChannaBoo, Thomas Ty, Deja Dej, Alexis Lex, Aniya, Dajon and Sean; son-in-law, Leon; daughters-in-law, Ellen, Gloria, Ida; devoted friend and praying partner-William Hawkins  and hosts and hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
