Obituary for Edward Dare

Edward Valentine Dare, 77, of Owings, MD passed away on July 2, 2009 at Calvert Memorial Hospital, Prince Frederick, MD. He was the youngest child born on February 14, 1932 to the late Henry and Mary Elizabeth Dare.
Ed was educated in Calvert County public schools. He was drafted into the United States Army where he served two years. After his military service, he became a dump truck driver, his truck driving career spanned 45 years. After his retirement, you could see Ed taking his daily walks in various places (route 2 and Safeway parking lot to name a few). Ed would leave home early in the morning with his cooler of snacks and water so he could socialize with friends and strangers alike at the Dash-In located in Owings, Maryland. But at 12:30pm, he would be at home waiting for the Young and the Restless to start. He also enjoyed watching court shows and going to local baseball games. Ed never met a person he didn't like or who didn't like him.
Today, Ed's life is celebrated by his family. He leaves to cherish his fond memories, the love of his life and best friend of 53 years, Margaret Jenkins-Dare; two daughters , Linda Jenkins of Owings, MD, Barbara Dare of Washington, DC; one son Richard Dare Sr. (Tonja), of St. Leonard, MD. Three grandchildren; Tracy (Thaddeus), Ikeena and Richard Jr., for great grandchildren; DeShawna, DeAndre, Imani and Kenyon, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ed was preceded in death by his two brothers; Lawrence and Herbert Dare and his sister; Sarah Dare Harding.
Funeral service was held on Friday, July 10, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Sewell Funeral Home, Prince Frederick, MD with Rev. Peggy Jobe officiating.The interment was at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. The pallbearers were James Dare, Roy Holloway, Christopher Jones, Charles Gray, Lester Johnson and Casey ReedThe honorary pallbearers were John Claggett, Joseph Hawkins and William Young.
