Earle Alton Jones was born on May 20, 1921, to the late William and Lena Jones, in Parran, Maryland. He was one of twelve children. His education was received in the public schools of Calvert County. He was inducted in the United States Army on December 12, 1942 and served in France. For his dedicated service he received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Ribbon, the World War II Victory Ribbon, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon. During his tenure in the Service he rose to the rank of Technician 5. He was honorably discharged on December 6, 1945. Upon his return to his home his work experience included construction work and farming. He was a member of The Laborers Union #74.Earle was united in holy matrimony to Mildred Juanita Green Jones on December 5, 1953. He affectionately called her Pete. He loved his family and took pride in doing things for them.Earle became a member of Plum Point Church at an early age. He attended faithfully until he was no longer able due to his illness. He served as an usher, a trustee and in other capacities in the church. He loved gospel music and would often listen to the tapes of the church Sunday services, to the radio, and to the CDs. One of his favorite hymns was Heaven Is A Beautiful Place.Earle was a member of the American Legion, Gray-Ray Post #220, for over 55 years. When it was Bull Roast time, he could be seen with his apron on, working in the kitchen. He was also a member of Alfred E. Young Lodge. Baseball was his favorite sport and his favorite team was the Baltimore Orioles.Life for Earle ended on Monday, February 9, 2009. We will remember him fondly as one who always presented a warm greeting which made you feel welcomed. A life well lived, a life well spent.Earle was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Ada Gorman (Warren Gorman), Marybelle Brown (Wilford Brown, Sr.), Alice Parran (Hamilton Parran, Sr.); his brothers and sisters-in-law, Leroy (Kate), Genious (Mary), Joseph (Henrietta), Benjamin, Rudolph, William; and his sisters-in-law Janie and Gertrude Jones.Left to cherish fond memories are his wife, Juanita; brothers, Walter and Ralph; sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law, Dorothy, Theo, and Corinna Jones, Arnetta Jones (Randolph), Mary Green, and Brenda Jefferson (Oliver); godchildren, Judy Plater, Alton Green, and Juanita Booth-Emerson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
