Obituary for Earl Sylvester Tyler

Earl Sylvester Tyler, 51 of Saint Leonard, MD, died Thursday, June 19, 2008 at the Washington Hospital Center. He was born Sunday, April 7, 1957 in Calvert County,    MD to the late John Melvin Tyler and the late Edith Mae Stewart.  As a child, Earl witnessed a tragic domestic altercation that led to his mother's untimely death.  This experience seemed to have left deep emotional scars that perpetuated cycles of incarceration from Earl's youth throughout his adulthood. But for the past five years, Earl demonstrated that one could rise above any tragic experience.  One can change the script from tragic beginnings to triunphant living.  And so Earl did.  So, for the past five years, Earl was a faithful employee at Grover's Lawn Service in St. Leonard, MD.  He never missed a day's work.  In addition, Earl picked up side jobs to just keep busy.  When he wasn't working, he could be found fishing, riding his bicycle, or listening to the R & B records of the late Otis Redding. As a child, Earl walked to church with his family to the St. Luke United Methodist Church where the late Rev. Joseph Collins was the pastor.  While incarcerated Earl was a regular worshipper in the Christina Faith.  He continued to nurture his faith as he visited many local churches, including Brooks United Methodist Church on many occasions. All the progress that Earl had made in the past five years all were consumed by now another tragedy.  It was a  house fire where Earl sustained burns over 90 percent of his body and later succumbed to the burns while being treated at the Washington Hospital Center.  Earl found a new home where he no longer had to do anything but walk around heaven all day.Surviving are one sister, Doris Waul; one brother, Gerald Waul; a niece, Ternice Knight (William); 8 great nieces; 2 great nephews; 6 aunts; 3 uncles; 1 great uncle; and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends.
