Obituary for EVELYN VIRGINIA GROSS
Missionary Evelyn V. Gross, our beloved was born on June 5, 1932 in Calvert County Maryland, to the late Mary E. Wallace and William Kyler. She transitioned from this earthly life to rejoice with her husband and the Lord on December 9, 2019 at Home surrounded by family and loved ones.
“Grandma or Granny”, as she was affectionately known by family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the second of seven children. Missionary Gross was educated by the Calvert County Public School System and worked as a custodian for 17 years and then another 30 years totaling 47 years of service with the Calvert County Board of Education. During Missionary Gross’s employment she received two awards one for 25 years and another for 30 years of service.
Although Missionary Gross was employed, she still found time to provide effective services to meet the desires and needs of others and especially to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Missionary Gross’s love and passion for children inspired her to be a Godmother and she was to so many children throughout Calvert County.
Missionary Gross loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren from the depths of her heart and as like most grandmothers and grannies there is always one that steals their hearts and that one would be Trinity. Missionary Gross had a special bond with Trinity although granny has now left to be with the Lord and because of the special bond the two had together, not even death can separate the two.
Missionary Gross favorite saying was “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord” and she believed this and knew that being “absent from the body, and to be present with Lord” was a good thing and the moment she had been yearning for.
In the early 1950’s, Missionary Gross married the late Brother William Henry Gross, who was a member of Calvary United Church of Jesus Christ, Apostolic and from this union were eight children. Missionary Gross received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was a faithful and longtime member until the Lord called her home of Calvary United Church of Jesus Christ, Apostolic. As a lover of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Missionary Gross was a virtuous woman and loved all people.
Missionary Gross was very dedicated to her family, church and friends. She would open her home to anyone she could especially those she knew was in need. Missionary Gross loved to teach about Jesus, pray and spend time with the Lord. Missionary Gross was a loving and caring person and loved by all whom, came in contact with her, because of her people-loving personality, smile she always carried on her face and desire to help anyone she could.
Missionary Gross leaves to cherish her memories eight children Clifton (Christine); Bertha; Amos; William; Mandell (Shirley); Philip (Jackie); Evelyn (Milton) and Barbara Reed. 7 siblings Ethel Janey; Bernice Ijams; Louise Gantt; Isabel White; Eva Butler; Charles Ijams and James Ijams. 8 very special friends Janet Diggs; Sheila Gross; Joe Smith; Terry Smith; Mary Barnes; Raymond Wall; Leola Wall and Angeline Boone as well as a host of other relatives and friends far and near.
