Obituary for EVELENE RAWLINGS
Evelene Holland Hicks Rawlings was born March 30, 1920 to the late Benson and Henrietta Mackall Holland in Prince Fredrick, Maryland. Evelene departed this life on July 10, 2019 at _Mandarin Inpatient Care Center in Hardwood, MD. \Vhere she went to her heavenly home to meet her Lord and Savior Jesus! She was 99 years old!
Evelene received her education in Calvert County public school system. Later in life she met and married William Frank Hicks and to this union 14 children were born, James (infant deceased), Mary, Arthur (deceased), Theresa, Lee, Lorraine, Ethel, Naomi, Sally, Donald, Ronald, Emma, Fay, and Oliver.
Evelene grew up in Calvert County spending most of her life on the farm but also did domestic work and custodial work for the Ford Lumber Company for several years before retiring. A special thanks to her personal friend Blanch Ward who helped her get employment.
Evelene received the Lord Jesus at an early age and was a member at Saint John United Methodist Church in Lower Marlboro, NID. Later years, in the 1960's she became a member of the Gateway Church of God in Lothian, MD. Under the leadership of Pastor Reubin William, Evelene and her children were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. After her second marriage she became a member of St. Edmonds United Methodist Church in Chesapeake Beach, MD.
Evelene was a great cook and she enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables. She made great tasking watermelon rinds, pears, and pickled beets. Evelene also was great at sewing and quilting, she made her own quilts for her family and they never had to buy quilts. She loved gospel music and the word of god. Her favorite songs were " Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross", "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", and "On Christ the Solid Rock We Stand".
Evelene was preceded in death by her parents Benson and Henrietta Mackall Holland, 3-Brothers Almos Holland, Rolland Holland, and Bernice Holland, 1- Sister Sally Jean Gaskin, late Husband William Frank Hicks, 2-Sons James Hicks and Arthur Hicks, Second Husband Ashby Rawlings Jr., 1-Son in Law William Rollins; and 1-Daughter in Law Sonia Hicks.
She leaves to cherish her life and memory: 4-Sons, Lee Hicks, Donald Hicks, Ronald Hicks, Oliver Hicks; 8-Daughters, Mary Simms, Theresa Jones, Lorraine Simms, Ethel Jenkins, Nioma Jackson, Sally Jones, Emma Hicks, Fay Rollins; Sons-in-Law, Garry Simms, John Jones; Daughters-in-Law, Rosa Hicks, Yvonne Hicks, Catherine Hicks, Ruth Ann Hicks, Enda Hicks; a host of Nephews, Nieces, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and Great Great Grandchildren.
