Obituary for EUGENE E. "SHORTY" PARRAN
Eugene Edward Parran, Sr. was born on July 10, 1948 to Mattie Gorman and Robert Parran Sr. God suddenly called his angel home on July 7, 2017 at MedStar Washington Hospital Center Washington, DC.
He was affectionately known as Shorty, Mr. Shorty, and Gene. Eugene had a heart of GOLD, with lots of stories and jokes to make people laugh.
Shorty attended William Sampson Brooks High School and graduated in 1966. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged. Eugene worked various jobs such as clerk at A&P grocery store, construction worker, and UPS delivery truck driver. He retired from UPS after 28 112 years. He was currently working at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex for approximately 13 years. Eugene loved people so much that he never met a stranger, they would always become friends. He loved bowling, fishing, coaching, family gatherings, flowers, photography, and sports.
Eugene attended Freedom Church in Forestville, MD and served as a greeter and usher with a warm smile and kind words. He received multiple community service awards from the Crofton Bowling Center, Prince Georges' County Department of Family Services Area Agency on Aging, Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex, and numerous military awards.
Eugene was married to Lilly Wesley and out of that union Eugene, Jr. was born. Eugene and Jr. were like two peas in a pod, people would call them brothers. He was an exceptionally dedicated father who made sure that Jr. had every advantage to be successful in life. His love for his son will go down in history as FATHER OF THE CENTURY!
Later, he married Irene Smith and was blessed with four additional children and four grandchildren whom he adored.
He was preceded in death by Robert Parran (father), Norman Parran (brother), and Barbara Bishop (sister).
Eugene leaves to cherish his devoted wife, Irene; sons, Eugene, Jr. and Shawn Smith; daughters, Kennethia Smith, Buffy Bell (Chris) and Brandi Smith-Porter (Reginald); grandchildren, Christopher Ferguson, Jada Ferguson, Cierra Smith, Jaquan Porter, Mya Porter and Javoni Porter; mother, Mattie Gorman; adopted parents, Genious and Betty Gorman; brothers and sisters, Alvin Glen Wills, Sr. (Paulette), Melvenna Thompson (Ernest), Genious Gorman, Jr. (Anita), Koren Brown (Tyrone), Patricia Gorman, Reginald Berry, Sr. (Carlise), Rodell Berry, Sylvester Parran, Sr., Andrea Chris Banks, Dale P.
