Obituary for ETHAN JUNIOR JOHNSON

Ethan Junior Johnson , affectionately known as "Little Buddy" the son of the late Thelma Jefferson and Owen Johnson, Sr, was born February 26, 1934 in Dowell. Maryland. He suddenly departed this life on May 6, 2019 at Calvert Memorial Hospital.

Ethan was educated in the Calvert County Public School System. He worked at JC Lore Oyster House & Bunky’s Tackle Shop both located in Solomon’s Maryland. He also worked at Denton Oyster House in Broome Island, Maryland, not to mention Wood Oyster House in St. Leonard, Maryland. In 1956 he joined the United States Army and served as a PFC (E-3) (T) ARMY AUS ARTY, stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged after suffering a leg injury. He was a construction laborer in the housing development at Solomon’s Landing, and also did maintenance and boat painting at Zanhiser Marina, and other miscellaneous jobs over the years.

Ethan was known to enjoy reading and researching a variety of subjects and would often refer to his personal library during a conversation to fact check and settle matters in question. He had a large collection of antique bottles, coins, tools and even shark teeth. He held a special interest in ancient Indian burial artifacts and researched and shared the history of Indian cultures in the Dowell, Lusby, and the Solomon’s area. Ethan was also known to be the local handyman repairing household items, appliances, and small engines such as lawnmowers, often using his shed in the back yard as his workshop. He was quick to give advice to help anyone with boating and automobile repairs. Ethan enjoyed fishing, crabbing and boating on the Patuxent River waterways including creeks, and the Chesapeake Bay. He would often head out early morning on his skiff to catch crabs, and was known as one of the best soft crab catchers in the area. He was also a gardener and hunter in his day. He also had a knack for making gadgets and toys with movable parts out of everyday items such as a wire clothes hanger. He enjoyed playing cards and social time, but mostly enjoyed the quiet solitude of country living and spending time with family. He was known to have a sharp memory and enjoyed sharing stories of old times. Certainly everyone in the family can remember something endearing about our beloved Uncle Buddy and he will surely be missed.

Preceding him in death are his parents Thelma Jefferson and Owen Johnson, Sr., brothers Owen Johnson Jr., Gibson “Jack” Johnson, Carroll Johnson Sr, and sisters Rose Taylor, Mary Kent, and Dorothy Smith. Ethan leaves to cherish his memory, sisters Anna Gross, Gladys Hutchins, Iona “Judy” Johnson, Peggy Sutton (James, Sr.), one brother, William Jefferson (Sonia), and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
