Obituary for ERNESTINE BOSTON COLLINS

Ernestine Boston Collins, 86, formerly of Prince Frederick, MD passed away on May 2, 2013 at Meadowbrook Care Center, Cincinnati, OH. Ernestine Virginia Boston Collins was born in Washington D.C. on August 30, 1926. She was the last remaining of nine children blessed to the marriage of Martha and Ernest Boston and for 52 years the loving wife of the late Reverend Dr. Joseph Henry Collins. God blessed them with two sons, Robert Henry and Joel Andrew Collins who preceded her in death. Ernestine received her education in the District of Columbia public school system. She then pursued a career with the federal government, retiring from service in the Department of the Army at the Pentagon in 1972. The most cherished and defining moments of her life's journey was her service at the side of her husband Joseph, pastor of Brooks United Methodist Church, as First Lady of the Congregation for 33 years. Following their retirement from Brooks, they joined Mount Olive United Methodist Church and participated faithfully until prevented by failing health. While active, Ernestine served as Financial Secretary and taught many craft activities in the Church Vacation Bible School Program. She was well known for her craft and quilting skills, sharing them unselfishly with all who were interested. Due to illness, she later moved to Ohio to live with her son Robert and daughter-in-law Deborah. Ernestine leaves behind to cherish her memories, her son Robert; daughters-in-law, Deborah and Darlene Collins; five grandchildren, Alexis, Anthony, Noel, Cobay, Kris; six great grandchildren, Zora Simone, Ayasani,Cayden, Kris, Kayla, Anjewelee and Danae; sisters-in-law, Barbara and Lorraine Collins, Edith Pettigrew; brothers-in-law, Philip and Charles Collins, William Wilson, Jr., George Pettigrew and a host of dear relatives and special family friends.
