Obituary for ENOCH ALEXANDER JOHNSON
Enoch Alexander Johnson was born May 19, 1933, in Calvert County MD. To the late Gurley and Carrie Johnson.
Enoch affectionately know as Daddy, grandaddy, pops, Uncle Enoch, Uncle Jessie, and Johnson received his wings early Friday morning November 13, 2020. Enoch Alexander Johnson attended William Sampson Brooks High School. Enoch worked Various jobs until later in his life he met Lelia Ella Hall and married at the age of 21 on May 24, 1954. From that holy matrimony, he has 8 children.
Enoch then moved his family to Church Road in Mitchellville MD in the 1960s. Enoch would come back to Calvert County on Sunday’s to Brooks Church and visit family. Later, Enoch decided to move his family back to Calvert County in 1986, to the famous “red house” on Broomes Island Road. This was the house that if we had time to say a few words about the red house you would laugh a little cry, maybe even cry a little, but when you came to visit “Enoch” you felt right at home.
Enoch loved to sing, he joined several Gospel groups throughout his life. The last gospel group was the Methodist Men of Brook United Methodist Church, when his health started to decline, Enoch made the choice to sit down but still sing from his seat.
Enoch was a dedicated member of Brooks United Methodist Church for over 50+ years, he enjoyed listening to Pastor Jason Robinson preach, it was always a foot-stomping hand-clapping service every time he attended.
Sometimes you would hear him in his bedroom singing some of his favorite gospel songs during the night. One of his favorite songs was “Church Bell Toning” that he sang all the time. He sang this song with his children and grandchildren on his birthday this year not knowing it would be the last time we would hear him sing.
In Enoch’s past times he enjoyed hunting, Fishing, Farming, and raising farm animals, especially hogs. He loved the community event of slaughtering the family hogs. He seasoned the meat and made country sausage, ham, and bacon. He loved playing horseshoes and he made his own man cave out of an old shed behind his houses with a wood stove, TV and a small table to be used for whatever. Only men were allowed! The true meaning of a man cave. In his free time, he taught his children to pull the crab sand, to harvest the live crabs and eat them. As he got older all he wanted to do was to go fishing with his children. Susie did not eat fish, but she would clean and supply him with his favorite meal.
Presided in death are wife Lelia, son Marvin, Maurice, and grandson Maurice aka Duddy, Rondell. He leaves to mourn Sister Iris(Ford) Harris, Mabel, Roberta(Sydney) Andrews.
