Obituary for ELMER EVERETT CREEK
Elmer Everett Creek, Sr. was born on April 12, 1952 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland to the late Maurice Creek, Sr. and Helen Contee Creek. In the early morning hours on Monday, September 30, 2019, God sent his angel and called Elmer home.
Elmer Everett Creek attended school in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Elmer was one of the first black students to segregate to Southern Senior High School. Elmer was a lifetime member of Peter’s United Methodist Church.
Elmer had a great spirit. He was almost like a magnet to people. He loved and cared for everyone and kept them laughing all the time. Elmer had a special bond with his church and participated very actively, being a Sunday school teacher, a chaperone for Rock Retreat for Youth, a Trustee and a member of the Senior and Men’s choir. Elmer loved singing his favorite songs, Trying to get home, Fix it Jesus, I’m still here and It’s alright, It’s OK. Elmer was the President of United Methodist Men and ensured on every Mother’s Day all the women received roses.
During Elmer’s early years, he was known as the jokester in his family, always playing a joke on his sisters and brothers. He was extremely smart and gravitated towards electrical engineering after completing high school. Elmer spent a great part of his years working for XEROX in Arlington, VA and later moved on to become a Technical Engineer for American Office Systems and Genesis Office Systems for many years. Recently, he became an employee of the Baltimore County Public School System. He loved his job and frequently spoke highly of working for the school system.
As a young adult, Elmer ventured into being a Disc Jockey (DJ), known as the amazing “Creeko Disco.” He loved music and enjoyed entertaining at many parties and events. Elmer also had a passion for motorcycles. You could find him many days cruising around on his Harley Davidson. Elmer was very adventurous and enjoyed having fun. He was a member of the Super Natural Gas Motorcycle Club in the late 70s, as well as, the Secret 7 Social Club in the late 80s and early 90s.
Elmer was 17 years old when he met the love of his life, Doris Ann Tyler, who was 14 years old. There was no way Mr. Tyler was going to allow Elmer to date his young daughter, but Elmer was persistent and was able to steal Doris Ann’s heart while singing in the choir at Peter’s U.M. Church. After dating for a while, Elmer and Doris Ann were married on May 4, 1991.
Elmer had four children, Chad Creek, Elmer Creek, Jr., Sheena Creek and Genia Giles. He had a unique love for his children. He was patient and loving while sharing his knowledge through stories and memories of his childhood. Elmer’s legacy of wit, intelligence and generosity lives on through them.
Elmer was just an all-around, fun loving, humorous guy that absolutely loved everyone. He had two grandsons, Jayven and Avion and also his grandchildren at heart, Terrance and TerNaeja. Elmer had a special routine with Jayven, as he was the one who took him to school daily. They had breakfast every morning, liked to go to the store and buy Matchbox cars and often went to McDonalds. Yes, Elmer was Jayven’s Pop Pop; however, Elmer had a place in his heart for all his grandchildren.
Elmer had many favorite pastimes. Everyone knows he loved the Washington Redskins. This was his team! Win or lose, Elmer would never turn his back on them. Elmer had all the Redskin’s gear, hats, jerseys, socks and mugs. He recently received a Redskins serving tray that he cradled like a baby! He also loved all things Jurassic Park, including his collection of movies and figurines. Elmer was an avid chess player and would always be ready and willing to take on anyone in a match. He loved debating politics and playing bid whist. Elmer also loved joking around with his best buddy, Bob Adams, known by his wife Doris Ann as Elmer’s “2nd wife.” Elmer and Bob were like the odd couple. They were inseparable and always bantering. Elmer…the Washington Redskins fan; Bob… the Dallas Cowboys fan, left plenty of room for their favorite saying, “You Big Dummy.” They had a lot of laughs and fun together. Elmer loved cooking on the grill and eating crabs. He felt that he was the “best cook” in the world. Elmer loved to eat meat loaf, chili and lima beans, but he especially loved eating his mother’s caramel cake…How yummy!
