Obituary for EARL C. DAVIS
God in His infinite wisdom removed from earthly labor to eternal rest, the soul of our beloved father, brother, uncle, cousin, and dear friend, Earl Christopher Davis on December 31, 2017. Earl was born to the late Rev. Clarence Davis, Sr. and Winnifred Davis in Winchester, VA on December 28, 1945. Educated in West Virginia and Maryland schools, Earl graduated from Douglas High School in Baltimore, MD. After graduation, Earl attended Maryland Easter Shore College. Shortly after college, Earl became employed as a carpenter with George Hyman Construction Company in Washington, DC. At an early age, Earl married Elmira Hattie Smith in 1965 and of that union they have one daughter, Crystal E. Davis. Earl enjoyed carpentry and loved working with his hands diligently on carpentry projects. In the early 1970’s, he designed and built his first home. Later in life, he moved to Clinton, Maryland and joined Shiloh Baptist Church, Washington, DC. In 1993 Earl became an ordained Deacon at Shiloh and served on numerous ministries. He was a dedicated member of the Olivet Circle, Unit 2 Usher Board, the Male Chorus, Men of Shiloh, Security, and also drove the van for the Girl Scout field trips. Earl was very active in community organizations; he was passionate about local politics, he always participated in campaigns and civic association meetings. Earl always made time to support charities. He volunteered at So Others Might Eat in Washington DC cooking and feeding the homeless. Earl was the youngest member of his family and was “known to be knowledgeable” about everything. There was not a subject he was not aware of and he enjoyed being asked his opinion because he had one to share. Through his love for the Lord, family, and friends, Earl lived a rich and rewarding life. We are all blessed to have shared his life. Earl’s absence will leave a tremendous void in our lives. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving daughter Crystal; four brothers: Rev. Clarence Davis, Jr. (Shirley) of Baltimore, Maryland; Vernon Davis (Caroline) of Henrico, Virginia; George Davis (Mary) of Alexandria, Virginia; and Dr. Burton Davis, Sr. (Mozell) of Charlotte, North Carolina; three brother-in-laws; John W. Smith, Jr. (Esther) of Lexington Park, Maryland; Frank M. Smith (Mary) of Hollywood, Maryland; and Leonard C. Smith of Baltimore, Maryland; two sisters-in laws; Eva Statesman (Alfred) of Valley Lee, Maryland and Mary S. Moore (Orlando, Sr.) of Lexington Park, Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Earl was preceded in death by his wife Elmira Davis. Servant of God, well done! Thy glorious warfare’s past; The battle’s fought, the race is won, And thou are crowned at last.
