Obituary for Dorinda Marie Parran

Dorinda Marie Parran, the first born daughter of Gladys M. and the late John O. Parran, transitioned on Sunday, January 11th in Washington, DC surrounded by family and friends.

As a child, she attended Brooks United Methodist Church. Although she did not regularly participate in corporate worship as an adult, she continued to support its ministries. Dorinda was educated in the public schools of Calvert County with the focus of her studies in business.

After graduating from high school, Dorinda held a variety of jobs. For over twenty years, she was employed by Potomac Electric Power Company, initially working in security and most recently as a Customer Service Representative.

Aunt Rindy enjoyed family gatherings, traveling, laughing, and spending time with her nieces and nephews. Jonah, a great-nephew, was the recipient of a great deal of Aunt Rindys weekend time for the past 5 years. She would make special plans for the entire weekend that he would be with her as they both looked forward to their weekends together. In caring for her nieces and nephews, she erased the boundary line between the role of aunt and the role of parent. Although she did not give birth to any child, she gave life to many of the children that she encountered.

Dorinda took pride in constantly giving back to her parents. She was her mothers backbone; supporting, taking exceptionally good care of and spending quality time with her as frequently as she could.

To meet Rindy was to encounter a person who expressed the love of God. She was a selfless gold-hearted lady.

Left to cherish many fond memories of Dorindas life are: her mother Gladys Marie Parran; brothers James, Gregory, Quenton, John, David and Prentice; sisters Clarice, Vandora and Letitia; 2 sisters-in-law; 9 nieces; 4 nephews; 7 great-nieces; 9 great-nephews; 13 aunts; 14 uncles; a great-aunt; a godson Malik Reid; and an extremely close cousin who she loved as a sister Rita Barnes. She was preceded in death by her father, the late John Olandus Parran.

Dorindas love caused her to be fortunate enough to have an extended family which comprises many special friends: Melvalee, Valerie, Sharon, Karen, Tina, Mary, Dickens, Lucy Buckmaster, Lennox, and all of her friends at Pepco. Also left are a host of other relatives and friends.
