Obituary for DOVELL A. KIRK
Our Heavenly Father, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, called home His child, Dovell Antwawn Kirk, who departed this life on January 15, 2017.
Dovell Antwawn Kirk was born in Prince Frederick, Maryland on May 6, 1975. Dovell was affectionately known as "Boobe" by his loving wife of 18 years, Victoria L. Kirk (Boobe). To so many others, Dovell was fondly known as "Kirk" and "Kirky-Kirk." Dovell is the oldest of 4 children and leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Victoria Kirk; mother and father, Rayfield Sr. and Carolyn Harcum; grandmother, Elsie Claggett; mother and father-in-law, Joseph and Clarice Fletcher; two children; Tyriva and Dae'zha Kirk, one brother, Rayfield Harcum Jr.; two sisters, Dynita (Harcum) Wilcher and Sable (Harcum) Mackall; two sisters-in-law, Michelle Brooks and Nykisha Harcum; three brothers-in-law, Kipp Brooks, Edward Wilcher and Ryshawn Mackall; three nephews, RayQuan Harcum, Bryce and Drew Wilcher; three nieces, Kiandra Brooks, RayOnna Harcum and Kendall Wilcher; six Godchildren, Carlton Freeland Jr., Daryl Smith Jr., Kevin Creek Jr., Makayla and Taylor Harrod and LunDyn Johnson; and a host of family and friends.
Dovell attended Calvert County Public Schools and graduated from Northern High School in 1993. Shortly after graduating High School, Dovell attended Bladensburg Barbering school and began a barber apprenticeship. After successfully completing his apprenticeship, Dovell was fully licensed as a Barber and began working at Calvin's Barbershop in Annapolis, Maryland. Ultimately, Dovell ventured to become the co-owner of "Mike's House of Style" Barbershop in Prince Frederick, Maryland. Dovell was a gifted barber and used his skills and talents not just for the general public, but for many years, Dovell offered his barbering services to the Calvert County Detention Center and to Sewell Funeral Home. Whether or not you were a patron, or just stopping by the barbershop, serving time, or transitioning on to Glory, Dovell truly wanted everyone to experience the dignity that comes with looking and feeling their best.
Alongside of being a family man, great friend, professional barber and business owner, Dovell was equally known for his love and enthusiasm for motorcycles, ATV's, cars, jeeps, racing and fishing. Dovell relished the times when family and friends gathered, and left no doubt that he especially enjoyed his collection of toys and wanted you to share in his excitement. Dovell was a member of the Eclipse Sports Riderz Motorcycle Club (Sergeant-At-Arms), Camp Buck-Buck Jeepers Club and the Southern Boys Corvette Car Club. In each club, Dovell was always thought to be a key, if not the main ingredient for the success, style and strength of the club.
Dovell planted seeds of love, friendship and unity wherever he went and to whomever he met. He was fun-loving, always joking and one of the thriftiest guys you would have ever met. Many of those who knew Dovell routinely sought his advice and encouragement. With so many fruitful relationships, it seemed only natural that Dovell would be attracted to and ultimately join the fraternal brotherhood of the Masons. Dovell was a Master Mason of the Mason's Victoria Lodge #71 in Huntingtown, Maryland. During his tenure, Dovell served as Junior Steward and possessed all of the qualities that a Mason would stand for: Dovell was a man of honor and integrity who was honest, compassionate, loving, trusting, knowledgeable and understanding.
Even in this snapshot of Dovell's life, his living legacy is cemented in the strong and unbreakable bonds of family and friendship that not even death can sever. So the next time you cut, play, camp, ride, work, fish, race, get a new toy, join a club, or gather as family and friends, remember that Dovell is there with you, watching over you and cheering you on. Words cannot express how much we love and will truly miss Dovell.
