Obituary for DOROTHY HOLLAND PINKNEY

Dorothy Holland Pinkney, the eighth child of twelve siblings and the last to enter eternal rest, was born to the late Joseph Holland and Ann Wills Holland on November 30, 1920 in Paris, Maryland peacefully departed this life on August 29, 2015 at her house.

Dorothy attended the Calvert County Public School system until the 7th grade. On October 1, 1943, she married the love of her life, John Pinkney, Jr. and from that union they were blessed with three sons and four daughters. Dorothy was a housewife and worked on the farm – farming was a big part of her life.

At an early age, she joined St. Edmonds United Methodist Church, where her grandfather Jamison Holland, in the year 1984, was a member of the Board of Trustees. Dorothy was an active member of St. Edmonds and often participated in fundraising events, as well as various other ministries.

Dorothy loved people. She enjoyed helping others and asked for nothing in return. She also worked in the community to include Mt. Harmony Elementary School, and did so with a willing heart.

We will all miss her smiling and loving face. The people whose lives she touched will truly miss her. God saw the need and felt her pain and said “it’s time to come home my faithful servant.”

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, brothers, husband, John Pinkney, Jr., daughter Peggy Pinkney Gray and sons; Page Pinkney (Augustine), Chester Pinkney (Evelyn) and Anthony Pinkney.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories three daughters; Eugenia Bell (Wilson), Connie P. Washington (Lincoln), and Faye P. Baylor (Sylvester); fifteen grandchildren; Gwendolyn Gray, Rita Long (Ronnie), Peggy Joy Clinton (Frank). Cynthia Pinkney, Pondnell Beverly (Aretha), Wayne Bell (Leota), Page Pinkney Jr. (Christine), Grafton Robinson (Nicole), Debbie Inez Bowens, Tonia Pendergrass (Vincent), Walter Ward Jr., Lincoln O. Washington, Jr. (Alicia), Tamara Easton (Khamisi), Jarvis Pinkney and Mia Bush (Dana); twenty-nine great-grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. She also leaves special friends Gertrude V. Hawkins and Victoria Scott Curtin.

A special thanks to her grandchildren and her aunt Angela Morsell, who were there whenever they were asked to come and sit with her. Her grandsons, Pondell and Grafton, who stayed with her at night, her son-in-law Sylvester and most of all her son-in-law Linc, who were there whenever needed, and to everyone who took the time to visit with her, as well as called her on the telephone and sent cards, we thank you.
